I'm 31...graduated in 1992. I think it's easier since you have only been out of HS for ~2 years. I have a feeling I'm simply not remembering this stuff....13 years is a TAD longer than 2 my friend.

🙂

Alas, maybe I'm just the dumbest SOB on the face of the planet...

*shrug*

That was partly my question. When I was in high school, only Algebra and Geometry were taught unless you joined an Advanced Placement Trig or Calc class. Neither were required to graduate. I always did well with algebra and geometry, but most of the questions left me saying...WTF?
I suck at math.. lol

I got 4/8 correct. But I have no idea how to figure them out on paper, I just guessed to the best of my ability. 😛

I'm in Canada so I don't have to take this test, but I saw this little link on hotmail so out of curiosity I tried it. Well these questions are ridiculously easy, and I'm not even in grade 12 yet... is the real SAT this easy??

that made my brain hurt so I gave up.

Aren't you an engineer? 😛

Thats what they tell me. 😛 Yeah I guess I do have a piece of paper floating somewhere with my name and "engineering" written on it.

Yeah i just haven't done that kind of math for many years so I have to twist my brain around. 😕 I did end up doing it just now and got 8/8 but man my brain hurts now. 😛

It's really that easy...

The thing is that A LOT of people buckle under the pressure of a standardized test in an unfamiliar room. Some let their minds wander, others just make careless errors. And I know a good number of people who, while intelligent, simply got caught up by one or two questions and never had the time to even look at each question.

Your school must have a really crappy curriculum... Most of that should have been covered in algebra, plus one in geometry. You apparently haven't seen f(x) notation.. but the other questions... they SHOULD have been covered in your classes (but apparently weren't).

edit: That is grade 11 math in Canada, btw. None of those questions took any Grade 12 Math competence to solve. However, if there is Calculus you're screwed without the necessary education -_-

Does Grade 12 cover calc?

The point of the SAT is to cover what you should know and since only pre-calc + trig level of math is required for college entrance, that's what it tests.

No. Grade 12 does not cover calculus. You have to take Calculus AP to learn calculus in my school.

Aw, my school doesn't even offer an AP course. We just have a normal Calculus course to get you started with it, but you don't get any uni credit. By the end of the year, most people skip the class because they don't really care anymore.

I heard from most people that the English part of the SAT is pretty hard. A brainiac friend of mine got a perfect mark on it. Crazy. She's going to CalTech (i think that's what it's called?) this year.

Definitely a brainiac if she's going to CalTech. CalTech has a male:female ratio of something like 7:3. I only got waitlisted 🙁

And to the person that got 2/8, if you guessed on the others that means you actually got zero (2 - 8 * 1/4).

Umm, check your math.

He got 2 right so we will give him 2 points.
(points = 2)
He got 6 wrong so we will take away 6x1/4 points or 1.5
points = (2 - 1.5)
points now = .5
It should have been (2 - 6 * 1/4)

D'oh! Well, 0.5 isn't much to speak of either.

If I'm remembering correctly, the SATs round down negative points so he got 1 point.
