The "new" SAT...

that's not too far off at all. The SAT isn't really that hard overall, but they always throw in some calculus questions which kill if you haven't taken calc.

Iono, but I'm already in college going into my 3rd year of engineering and I got em all right. Dunno if that means its too easy...

I'm in Canada so I don't have to take this test, but I saw this little link on hotmail so out of curiosity I tried it. Well these questions are ridiculously easy, and I'm not even in grade 12 yet... is the real SAT this easy??

It was not that easy when I took it 16 years ago.
But, recently national average scores have been 100 to 150 points higher than the average when I took it.

Wow, took me 2 mins without calc or paper. I remember it being harder. Kids must be dumbing down nowadays

got all but 2, and I start the 10th grade In 2 days, spent 5 seconds at most on each problem, no paper or calculator either

Seems a bit wrong because anyone who has taken Math 11 up here in Canada should be able to breeze through those questions. I did them in my head, most of them took about max 10 seconds. The final exam we got for Math 11 even had much harder questions.

Nope, it's easy. You aren't supposed to have trouble at all figuring out the solution, it's all about the time management (never had a problem with that either, I used to finish in half the time and sleep).

Wow... this is absolutely trivial. What a cakewalk.

edit: That is grade 11 math in Canada, btw. None of those questions took any Grade 12 Math competence to solve. However, if there is Calculus you're screwed without the necessary education -_-

Math 11 is probably the hardest grade of math you'll get besides Calculus (which is AP anyway). I scored 86% in grade 11 math and 92% in Grade 12 math with barely any studying time (I just did my homework).

Does Grade 12 cover calc?

The point of the SAT is to cover what you should know and since only pre-calc + trig level of math is required for college entrance, that's what it tests.

its to make our national "average" scores look better compared to the rest of the world who are leaps and bounds ahead of us when it comes to math.
It took me all of about a minute to complete with an 8/8 but I was a math major graduated all of a year ago 😛 I dont doubt it would've taken me longer back when i took the SAT but im pretty sure i would've gotten them all correct. It does seem easier. It all depends on what the real word problems they put on the test are since thats where most people get tripped up.
Now if only they'd dumb down the english portion....i mean did anyone here REALLY study for the reading comprehension or the matching words up? If you did well more power to ya but those are just scrwey sections seemes like...all i ever did was take an educated guess and thats all anyone else i knew did too.

No. Grade 12 does not cover calculus. You have to take Calculus AP to learn calculus in my school.

not really, but I think everyone should be able to get 600+. National SAT averages are really low though. I remember SDSU said their average SAT score for admitted students was 1050, with an average GPA of like 3.6. How do you get a 3.6 and get a 1050?

Erm, San Diego State Univ? Its not that hard to get in there. Common, it was featured as one of the top party schools in the US. Now, if you said that about UCSD, then you got something, but SDSU is something else.

EDIT: I agree though on how people get 3.6's and 1050's. I figure they work decently hard to do homework but aren't as good on tests. Kinda like how I got a 1400 and a 2.9 unweighted. I had some fun senior year. 😉

That's because they changed the way they scored it since you took it.

Wrong. There is no calc or trig on the SAT.
MYTH: The SAT tests complex math concepts.

FACT: SAT math is tough because of the way the concepts are tested, not because of the concepts themselves. The SAT contains math concepts you learned in the seventh or eighth grade, i.e. arithmetic, basic geometry, and basic algebra - you won't see any calculus or trigonometry on the SAT

Myths about the SAT

One sad thing about the SAT and college athletics, the NCAA only requires an 800 if you have the required GPA in high school.

How can you be so stupid that you only get an 800??

You get 400 points just for writing your name on the answer sheet and turning it in blank.

The "new" 2005 SAT should be easier than before. I say this because the previous exam had two sections in particular, namely quantitative comparison and analogies, that made no sense to many people and were seen as completely useless by all people. Personally I had no problem with them (800M, 720V), but they really were stupid questions.

Same, I got all 8 no paper.
