The new Karate Kid movie is an abomination

The new Karate Kid was better than the old one. Now that you've seen this one, watch the old one again. That movie was pretty awful. One of the crappier 80's movies. Right up there with Weird Science and Gremlins.

Lies. If you can get over the acting and just relate to the character, the first is pretty damn good. I made my mother watch it about a year before that remake was released. It was thoroughly enjoyable.

agree. though Gremlins really is quite bad on re-watch. D:

Nothing wrong with Weird Science--i mean, that's what you expect of the 80s flicks.

I haven't seen the remake and I've had a hard time believing the critics who say it's just as good as the original. The most obvious flaw is that your typical American kid can't relate to the protagonist kid living in CHINA. Daniel Larusso lived in San Diego and dealt with the kind of problems most kids could relate to. It had nothing to do with culture shock.

Both movies are about a kid who was bullied, felt out of place and does what he has to in order to overcome. The fact the remake takes place in China is irreverent. I saw both and honestly I can't relate to the movie*shrug* But I guess you can relate, maybe there was a bully when you were a teenager who you Crane Kicked in the face to get t3h revenges!

I didn't care for the newer Karate Kid much, but it was alright overall. I still prefer the original. The original still has pop culture appeal with the fairly well-known "wax on, wax off." 😛

😵

Anyway, a sequel will definitely have much more potential, 85lb 11 year olds can't be believeable at delievering serious blows no matter how skilled they are at performing techniques. Jaden will certainly fill in and grow up pretty quickly.

You know, I wondered the same thing about the Thai movie, Chocolate. How the heck did a teenage girl with no actual strength training deliver one-shots to supposedly strong henchmen? Some of them would get up after a hit, but quite a few were down after a single hit to the gut.

The only problem I had with it was the kids were too young for the plot, same problem I had with Kick Ass.

But the Kick-Ass comic actually involves characters at that age.

Wait what happens at the end? The link below implies no crane kick. 😵

There's no "Sweep the leg!" either... I was disappointed 🙁.

What's wrong with Gremlins? It's a comedic horror, but it's also sort of B-movie-ish. Also, Gizmo is awesome 😛.

The alternate ending to the new Karate Kid was MUCH better than the theatrical version. Weird that they didn't leave it in.

Overall, it was ok.

Yes, that's fine and all, it is very B-movie-ish. It's just that I had remembered it not being so B-movie.

these things don't register when you're 6. 😀

I agree with you completely on the kids are too young. The black dude/asian thing has been growing. In real life I doubt he would have a problem because he is a good looking kid. And his skills were way better than Danielsin 🙂.

The one thing I can't understand are the people giving this crappy movie a "B" or a "8/10".

Are you seriously saying this trite piece of crap is 80% of Tora Tora Tora? It is ALMOST as good as Clockwork Orange?

Welley welley WELL then!

AMAZING that people seem to forget all the numbers between 3 and 7 when reviewing a flik.

Equilibrium was a 4
Gigli was a 1
Godfather II was a 10
Kentucky Fried Movie was an 8

This? If it was LUCKY it would be a 6.

Just remember, 5 means "meh".

That's the only reason he gets in movies is because of how popular his dad is.

In this case the apple fell far from the tree.

He's a small boy, do you expect him to be a 11 year old Al Pachino or somthing? Hell I bet at 11 Al wouldn't have been a good actor either. Plus it was his 1st big role. I would wait until he has some movies under his belt and is a bit older before writing him off. But that's just me, ATOT I'm sure judges him as if he should already be a top level actor.

I hold the original dear to my heart. I was mildly surprised by the remake. I thought I'd hate it, but it was enjoyable.

It would have been 10x better if one of the evil Asian flunkies had the line: "Get him a body bag!! Yeaaaaaah... HAHAHAHAHAHA"

Haven't seen it, but if there is not at least one scene with a kid screaming "PUT HIM IN A BODY BAG JOHNNY!" then yes, it's an abomination that should DIAF.

Can't agree with you re: Gremlins. But only because Zach Galligan ("Billy") was the older brother of one of my childhood friends. Also, I saw the movie when I was 8, and remember running out of the theater screaming.
