The new housing tax credit

That stinks... especially if you bought a house in December 2008. Unlike the $7500 credit, this one does not need to be repaid. Damn!

If you are considering buying a house, I'd say go for it this year and claim this credit. $8k is a pretty sweet deal. Plus, you'll get some deductions on your mortgage interest, which can be pretty significant during the first few years.

I'm hoping I can trade in my college car ('97 model) for a new one and claim the taxes as deduction for this year's tax.

Good time to buy a new car too since you'll be able to deduct the sales tax on it with the new stimulus plan.

I think this housing credit will include houses purchases made on July 2009. Not quite sure, but I remember seeing this date.
