sorry but peggle and stupid online flash games are not PC gaming 99% of women are not PC gamers

What's your angle here? Do you hate women or just plain angry?
Games played on a PC = PC game.
Do you argue that Wii players aren't gamers either?
I've heard that nutcase belief as well.

Yeah, I guess the guys behind games like bejeweled make huge profits without the investment needed to make a game like Crysis.

See that makes no sense to me.

What do we hear 99% of the time from the 'big' PC game makers? Something along the lines of we can't support the PC anymore because we lose 80% of our sales to piracy.

So how in the world can a game like bejeweled and the rest of the 'indie' games talked about in that article which have no real form of copy protection make 'huge profits'?

Probably because the targeted audience is the type that doesn't deal with pirating. It is a casual game, and the casual audience tends to not be pirates.

Nah I remember the World of Goo people saying piracy was high. I'm not sure there's any such thing as a casual gamer anymore at least not someone who would even know about something like peggle.

A game like Bejeweled probably has a development cost of around $200K, if they make $400K in ad revenue off of the on line version of the game they are doubling their money before you take in any purchase revenue at all. In order for a game like say Crysis to make a comparable ROI percentage wise it would probably need to sell around 3-4Million copies at full retail. On a realistic basis Bejeweled has likely made several million in total revenue offerng utterly insane ROI based on a percentage basis- this is something accountant types drool over.

Bah you got me on the number crunching :p

Casual and Indie games are a bit different. Popcap is the epitome of casual gaming. People like my mom and uncle player Popcap games, and I don't think they even know what pirating is.

On the other hand, indie games attract the attention of more tech-savvy folks. I can't imagine my mom playing a game like World of Goo; it isn't really that casual and the indie scene just isn't her style. But less casual gamers might be interested, and therefore pirate it.

My mother in law is hooked on Peggle. I wouldn't consider her a 'gamer' as that's all she plays. My wife is hooked on Bejewelled and tetris..and bowling on the Wii..I wouldn't consider her a gamer either. Granted, I'm the one that installed Steam on their laptops and showed them how to purchase games, they haven't even bothered looking at what else is available. The only other gamer in my household is my son. He's 7 and is an avid COD world at war fan already on his 3rd prestige level. So at least I'm doing my part and expanding my pc gaming interest to others, but in no way do they feel like 'gamers'. I think it would best be said that even if women play games, which many many do, only a few would consider themselves 'gamers'.
(plus, I just felt like quoting this massive quote log! :) )
