industrial age / information age / knowledge age / space age / alien discovery

obviously, education isn't really an option to overlook nowadays, for those that have the oppurtunity and capability especially.

the alien discovery thing is probably science fiction to some, but think a thousand years from now. now think a thousand years ago, did anyone realize we'd have such advanced technology?

either the human race deals with the shortages or they can just watch themselves get destroyed while some other nations conserve and wait it out 'till research and economic success can empower them - or not.

electric powered cars, private USAF anti-matter research, nuclear fission safety standards, it's not science fiction anymore.

too bad people are too lazy and let the executives and politicians run and letting ruin the children's future.

Would you rather pay .05 cents for a cucumber, or $10 for an ear of corn?

Not growing certain crops makes perfect sense from a financial point of view.

Lets say that some farm magazine said that cucumbers were going to be in high demand next summer. The floods in various parts of the world has destroyed much of the world cucumber crop. A lot of farmers think "man, oh man, I'am gonna hit it big with cucumbers". Everyone and their brother grows cucumbers, the market is flooded 4 months later, price of cucumbers hits rock bottom from over production, and the price of everything else goes up - because nobody is growing anything else. Due to the low prices on cucumbers, farmers can not recover their investment into seed, fertilizer and fuel, and they have to sell the farm.

Dont you think its nice being able to go into a grocery store and have a selection of affordable food? Instead of certain things being cheap and other things being expensive.

If you dont like the price of food, grow your own. That is what I plan on doing with corn, beans, potatoes,,,,, and some other stuff this year.
They have these things called futures.

There were some food riots in 2010, but I suspect that 2011 is going to be much worse.

The price of food is directly related to the price of fuel. Fuel goes up = food goes up.

Get ready to turn that flower bed into a garden.
Hey, I did that years ago. In fact, I've never grown flowers. I did grow about 115 lb of kabocha squash last summer (still have over 1/2 to tide me over until next summer), and probably over 100 lb of tomatoes. Coupla nice plum trees, too. What I could teach you....

and farmers would not be able to recover their expenses.

Alot of farmers are already this way, they will never make it out of debt, even the huge farms. The gov needs to get their hands out of everything and let life take its ups and downs.

Get ready to turn that flower bed into a garden.

The wholesale price of rice is like $100 per metric ton.
Thats like 22 pounds of rice for a $1 or $0.04 per pound.
(If you eat a pound of rice per day thats only $15 per year)

I don't think anyone is going to starve anytime soon.
