Hey there guys, ive just signed up and I have a few questions flying around these forums just so i can get up to date with whats going on. I'm thinking of gettin a new PC (as you can probably trell from my sig) and I'm waiting for the directX 10 graphics cards as many of you probably are. I just wanted to know, does any know a rough price or release date for them? Or any other information? Thanks.

No. They're not coming out any time soon and the DX10 cards first gen are going to suck anyways, if you really need to build, build now and upgrade when DX10 has been refined. There won't be any DX10 games for a LONG WHILE and by then DX10 will be refined so will the cards.

Although if you do wait then you will get a much faster card for DX9- plus the current gen cards will fall in price. I say wait, its only a couple of months (hopefully)!

That sounds like a good idea too. Well i def want DX10 either way, even if i have to wait for the DX10 cards to become more stable. But I also want a PC around the time Vista launches...

Why are you waiting for DX10 now? You won't be able to use it for at least 8 months, until Vista comes out and DX10 compliant games are out.

In any case, DX10-complaint cards are supposed to be coming out in the form of G80 and R600.

Think of DX10 like athlon64's - you knew you weren't really gonna use 64bit for quite a while but you still bought one 'cos they were the quickest thing around. At least you did if you had any sense.....

Well i was mainly waiting for the game Crysis which looks amazing. When do you think (if i was to wait for DX10) that i could be enjoying that game propperly?

Crysis was premiered at the shows using x1900xtx's - you don't need dx10 for it and you wont NEED DX10 for ages. My argument is you might as well wait a couple months as the new cards (ignoring DX10 completely) will be much faster than you can get now and will lower the prices of current high end cards.

You shouldn't play the waiting game per se, but its only a couple of months and then you can make a proper decision based on what you know is available.

I hate the waiting game. Let's play hungry-hungry hippos!!

If your willing to wait as long as it'll take for dx10/vista... You can spend an equal amount of time waiting for the next thing... I've been waiting a few weeks for conroe, but that's the limit for me. They'll always be something to wait for. Heck, 2 years ago I was hearing people say they were waiting for BTX mobos/cases to come out... I wonder if they're still waiting.

Graphic cards go in cycles (approx 18 months for major releases). It's dumb to buy a high end current gen card when the next gen is just about out which it should be in the next few months. Same as it was dumb to buy an A64 X2 a month ago because we all knew Conroe was around the corner which has lead to a faster intel cpu, or a half price AMD A64.

Op should only buy high end now if he needs it now. If he can wait a few months for the next gen cards to come out that would be a smart move as they will cost the same as the current gen ones but go much faster.

But I doubt a DX10 card will be out in 3 months, let alone probably 6 months.

You probably see the first DX10 cards as either mainstream junk from Intel, ATI, or/and Nvidia. They will probably come out ~Q1 07, and the high end stuff, will follow.

Highly unlikely. The absolute earliest the DX10 cards would come out is likely late October. At this point in time, one month is a fanboy's wet dream. Two months is la-la land. Three months is probable. Four months is the best bet. This would put us in late Oct or anywhere in Nov territory.

Where are either one of you getting your "facts" from?

Hahahhaa! I love this quote! You are right, you really are, but when you are wearing the shoes, it just sucks dumping $600 for GX2 and then you have to buy another card when DX10 comes out and games are finally out in about a year. If you wait, you are screwed because you can't play, if you buy now you are screwed because you have to buy again in the near future.

They're predictions as I never stated anything as other than speculation. So don't go asking for facts when didn't set anything in stone. Do not go bashing me over facts when the very way I posted my reply to Nightmare225 would lead any intelligent reader to assume I'm speculating and not stating anything as fact. As said, the above are just my feelings based on rumors and rumblings from various web sites. For instance, ATI had a roadmap up that showed what they were doing up to Nov and it didn't include the release of the R600 GPU's. nVidia was recently to have taped out their G80 GPU's and it usually takes roughly 3 months from tape out to actual sales of cards.

Buy the 7600 for now.. you can find it for just over $100. Then when DX10 cards hit later in the year you can hold off till the sucker prices are done and get into one around March-April next year.

Not like there are really that great of games out right now anyway.
