Which is why I requested to hear what you all do to talk yourselves out of buying items you don't need.

If possible, upgrades. Upgrade parts or systems to give your car all the trinkets you perceive as necessary in your new car.

I agree with this 99% of the time...of course there are those few cars that seem to exceed expectations (BMW's, Porsche, etc). I drove my bosses Cayman S the other day and it nearly made me jizz in my pants when revving that motor.

Enjoy life!
If you can afford it -get a car you want, although I don't see a point of getting the same car with basically lower miles...
Anyway, I have to give up my 335i because of the recent pay cut and a rise in home taxes. As long you have some money saved up, and have a job, be happy - life is short.
And get something with torque for god's sake :)

Life is short, enjoy it. If you have the money saved up to get you through a lengthy period of unemployment and have your retirement in good shape go for it. You can't take it with you so you may as well spend some of it.

This.

However, I have made it a rule for myself since I first started working as a kid to NEVER buy anything I can't pay for in cash (A house is a near necessity so that doesn't count). And if I can afford it in cash, it must NOT impact my money reserves drastically enough to scare me.

It's why I think I will never pull the trigger on a 335i sedan anytime soon :(...but it's not the end of the world :)

Right now, I have a 2003 S2000 with 47K miles. Purchased certified used with approx 4K miles. It's a great car, I love it...and I've been thinking of replacing it with a 2008/09 S2000. Selling or trading mine in would allow me to get a new one without financing...but it's a LOT of cash to get rid of and as stated above, the more I've saved and invested, the harder it is to "waste" it.

I was going to say buy something older and fun but you already have that. I haven't really kept up on S2000 specs but what have they really upgraded since 2003? And yours is still pretty much new with just 47k miles on it.

Save cash and just buy the car :D

Do you think you deserve it? Have you worked hard? How are your investments going? You can always sell the car and it is bought 2nd hand you don't lose that much £££ if you get a 2-3yr older model :D

If you have a house then it's all good and the car will probably do better then your investments in stocks and shares also currently!

Next year I'll hopefully get an E46 M3 :D, hoping to get a decent sub 45k mile for £12k or so full loaded :p

Mate! No point trading up for the newer model S2000. You already have a 2003 model and the newer ones have hardly any difference. Does your have traction control or was that the 2004 versions? Your has the glass rear window so thats good. The pre 2002 versions had the plastic rear windows and the poorer sound system.

I have a 2002 S2000 and love it! I bought her last year with 33k miles on and it has 40k miles on now.
