The "NeoV Project" - Looking for people to help contribute - UPDATE: Collecting now

Don't come around these parts often but I thought I'd put up a post to see if there was any interest.

A quick backdrop on the "project". NeoV, an anandtecher, worked at OfficeMax until a couple weeks ago. He posted upcoming deals at Omax into the Hot Deals forum and created huge opportunities to get bargains. His first post was regarding a 15" TFT Monitor that was been closedout at $299, down from $799.

To make a long story short, he lost his job over it. I'm collecting names (then $$) of people who would be willing to help buy a TFT monitor for NeoV. In almost every post he made he mentioned that he wanted to get one but never could.

So far I have a list of 16 people who have pledged between $10-20 a piece. Looking for more. As it stands, I'm not collecting any money yet, just names.

I don't mean to sound like an A$$hole, and I wouldn't mind doing this. But how many people did estyle deal for him? I was thinking a lot. So..i don't know..this might be too much.

Have you talked with him? Does he need/want the monitor? As I said, if he does..I wouldn't mind pitching in a few bucks I just got sitting in my paypal account.

Instead of buying him a monitor, which he could buy with his own money after he gets a new job. It would be a good idea to help him financially(give him the money) to pay the rent ..whatever, or some other way, that he REALLY needs right now because he doesn't have a Job.

Monitor is a nice idea, but he does have a baby on ethe way too. so it might be a good idea to just take up a collection and send him and american express gift cheque.

Couple things:

I'm not sure about how many people did the estyle deal for him.

He's said that plain money would be bad ju-ju as it would just be spent.

The original monitor deal -was- a long time ago. He kept the deals coming. The most recent one (last month) was the one that ultimate cost him his job.

Why a monitor? Part nostalgia (It's what started everything) and part weinerschnitzel (In every post he asked if someone could pick up one of the TFT monitors if they got 2, I don't believe anyone ever did)

There is another motion to get a savings bond for his baby. This is a great gesture, but its not the one I want to make It's all about the TFT monitor that he'll look at whenever he uses his computer. And then, a single teardrop will fall as he receives the warm-fuzzy-goodness of thinking about "them crazy anandtechers". Heh.

Ok, I agree now, let's see if any Anandtechers out there can help him drum a job as well. I have seen this place pull together over the smallest things.

If I remember correctly from the other thread, he didn't want to accept money, so they decided to give him gifts instead.
