Old card exploded, a gtx 1070.

I'd love a new card at about 400 dollars as an upper limit. Card prices are crazy inflated and cards that offer a clear advantage over my old one are scarce and ridiculous.

Many here go through buying cards on a regular basis and any help would be appreciated.

moved from OT.

If only there was such a forum here where you could ask questions about video cards and maybe get intelligent answers...

:p
(ok, "intelligent answers" might be pushing it, but you get the point)

I went for a 5700 xt but that will be here tomorrow. The nice thing is that I have until mid January to return it so if the new 6700XT or whatever can be had I can upgrade for little or no cost. Hopefully.

did you try anything to fix it? take the heatsink off and repaste might fix your issues, my paste dried up and had the same issues crashing the system.

I haven't tossed it so I'll give it a shot over the winter.

While I wish the days of a high end card costing $250-$350 were back, I do like what is happening with both AMD & nVidia. Yeah cost is still high but at least we are getting worthwhile performance gains.

OP, an RX 5700XT is not a bad choice. Big Navi looks really awesome, and you might have been able to save a few bucks if you waited for the inevitable fire-sale (but buy it before the "obsolete tech scalpers" jack up the price beyond MSRP) on RX 5700XT cards, but if you're jonesing for some gaming right now, then you probably made the right choice for an inexpensive new card for 1440P gaming. Minus RT, of course. Certainly a better value than an RTX 2060 Super.

There will be new gen card launches in that price range. It'll just take 2-3 months for yields and stock to be high enough to meet the demand of 90% of gamers.

yeah just bugs me that the Uber end is $1k+ now and I don’t see that changing.

Was it an EVGA card? As I recall all the launch 1070s and 1080s outside of FE cards were ticking time bombs because the thermal pads did not actually touch the RAM.
