The name Thanksgiving offends me

Finally, this country is coming to its senses and phasing out "Christmas" and replacing it with the much more PC "Holidays" and "Seasons". The long nightmare is over. Phew. Now only one holiday naming conventions remains.....laughing at us...mocking our perfect secular society.....that hoiday is named "Thanks"giving.

Thanks to whom?

-- A divine creator? It's been pretty much established that referring to God is a form of oppression so there can't be any thanks in that direction.

-- Our slave-owning, Indian-slaughtering, wildlife-exterminating pilgrim ancestors? Please.

-- Our country? When it's so imperfect? Hmm....that would be nationalism....nope.

I think I've made my point. I work for my money, I work for my friendships, I'm "Given" nothing so why express "Thanks" for any of it? So how about we change it from Thanksgiving to TurkeyDay? Though, to account for vegetarians we should call it TurkeyOrTurkeySubstituteDay so as to not oppress anybody. Though, some people might be fasting, so maybe we can call it PreBlackFridayDay.

Given NOTHING? You're damn lucky not to be born in several parts of the world where you'd be half-naked, starving, and completely uneducated. If you can't be thankful for that, then you have no business discussing Thanksgiving.

+1

Although I agree with what you're saying, I can't help but not agree with you. I can't really take people seriously who call themselves Christians and yet behave in this manner.

If you want to take advantage of a holiday commercially, you have to make it applicable to the most people.

Duh.

In the event that this is sarcastic as DAGTA mentioned, I give the rant a hearty "Meh".

If it's serious, I'd like to be the first to suggest that you go fvck yourself. 😛

I'm thankfull that we have our bill of rights.
That way, HeroOfPellinor can say stuff like this in public legally.
Wow, what a great country!

Of course this is a privately owned and moderated board, so first amendment rights don't necessarely apply here....

It's hard to tell if the OP is serious or not. I'd like to think he's just stupid. 😀
