Current computer names:

Dalmuti (Athlon XP)
Peon (Celeron 566@850)
Gamer (P3)
Lapdancer (laptop)

Dalmuti and Peon are named after general positions in the card game "The Great Dalmuti."

At one place I worked we had the following naming conventions:

Main machines (all identical):

Athena
Bael
Chronos
Dalua
Eros
Freya
Grainne
Hel
Ishtar
Juno (We considered Jesus, but some people would probably have been offended)
Kibo (Diety of newsgroups)

(More powerful machines, all identical)

Hydrogen
Helium
Lithium

Servers:

Octane (Unix server)
Methane (Windows server)

[Edit: I forgot the names of the network equipment.

Router:

bay

Bridge (Managed):

London

I'm not sure where we got the name London from, it was an Asante that kept crashing, maybe from the song "London bridges falling down..."

/Edit]

Hobbiton - A PII-350 that is now spending its last days as my "main" computer, before I build my new Northwood beast
Buckland - A 1.1GHz Cellery laptop (so named because the Hobbits of Buckland were considered to be a bit 'strange' to the other hobbits and tended to go on adventures on occasion)
I haven't decided on a name for my new system yet...perhaps Midas Tirith, since it was a mighty fortress...

zankokunatenchi (My computer - this name can get very annoying at LANs)
colonelbox (Older brother's computer, fits with his CS nick colonel_burger)
Olly (came from the original computer, which happened to be an olliveti (sp?) Its components were slowly replaced until nothing of the original computer remained. I think we still have the SX25MT sticker on it, even though it's a celeron 466 🙂)

I forgot to mention that my network is named "The Shire", though I may have to change it to "Middle Earth" if I go with Midas Tirith for my new box.

my old duron 750 (RIP 🙁) was 'box'.

my p233 which was my firewall is named 'firewall', and after its transition to workstation (yes a p233 for a main computer, please pity me and send me donations 😉) kept that name.

the dual duron 1.3 machine that i'm close to finishing will probably be called 'two'. maybe 'dos'. maybe 'both'. something along those lines. short sweet and to the point 😉
