the music of 2006

Lifer
here are some of mine

unai - A Love Moderne
Harley & Muscle - A Decade Of Truth
Ashram - Shining Silver Skies
Ben Watt - Buzzin Fly III
The Rurals - Nettle Soul
The Rurals - The Moment It...
Morrissey - Ringleader Of The Tormentors
various Harley & Muscle Mixes
Faithless - To All New Arrivals

tons of other stuff which I will edit in here, as it occurs to me

Bruce Springsteen -- We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions
Destroyer -- Destroyers Rubies
Flaming Lips -- At War with the Mystics
Thom Yorke -- Eraser
Elvis Costello & Allen Toussaint -- The River in Reverse
Bob Dylan -- Modern Times
Brian Eno and David Byrne -- My Life in the Bush of Ghosts (reissue)

Honestly, although I love these albums, a VERY weak year.

Diablo Swing Orchestra - The Butcher's Ballroom

I listen to a wide variety of music, and this album happened to combine a lot of them together.

Trey Anastasio - Feb 28, 2001

Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra - 2004-06-10

Probably the best two live shows (FREE) that I ran accross.

And these are 100% totally legit FREE downloads. Got Antibalas from a friend .. not sure where he got it. Antibalas allows for free distribution of their ive concerts.

Trey's show can be found here at etree:

I can not say enough good things about archive.rog and etree. FOr the past year, I've gotten hundreds of live recording for FREE and it is some of the best music I have ever listened to.

I like random, interesting music..... should I blow some money on this album? The web site for this band proves that they have an interesting sound.

Not sure if i'll like it that much though.

It's definitely a unique album, and a lot of people will be turned off by the operatic lead vocals. The three tracks on their myspace page give you a good idea of what the rest of the album is like and are some of the 'better' tracks on the album. Overall it's an awesome blend of classical, flamenco, jazz, swing and lots of metal. So, if you're unsure now you might want to pass on purchasing it and enjoy the tracks available for free.

Opeth - Ghost Reveries
Dream Theater - Octavarium

I think those were both released in 06... not sure. The only other album I bought in 06 was Zao's The Fear is What Keeps Us Here but I listened to it once and have no desire to hear it again. Major letdown. The Funeral of God was one of their best albums and this sounds nothing like it. They went from metal with wicked riffs and vocals to screamo with forgettable riffs and monotone vocals.

hmm...didn't know there was a new Faithless album. No Roots was such a disappointment to me compared to the excellent Outrospective. I guess I'll have to check out the new one.

Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain
Biosphere - Dropsonde
The Gathering - Home
Green Carnation - Acoustic Verses
My Dying Bride - A Line of Deathless Kings
Tenhi - Maaäet
...
