His greatest hits.

After being named Iran’s top judge, he is believed to have been part of a small committee that ordered the executions of thousands of political dissidents in 1988.

Accused of decades of human rights violations, Mr. Raisi is the subject of punishing sanctions by the United States

During Mr. Raisi’s presidency, Iran faced large antigovernment protests after the death of a young Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini, in police custody. The authorities responded with a brutal crackdown that included killings and executions.

Helicopters and fog, they go together like nuts and gum. But good riddance to the asshole theocrat with a lot of blood on his hands.

I fear with all the hubbub going on a hardliner will probably take his place. Hope I'm wrong.

Did the bleached blonde bad build butch body space laser hit something?

What kind of liability are we looking at?

*formerly tweaker2* - It seems somebody got the idea from the folks that got Prigozhim to learn to flap his arms and make like a bird on the wing for a couple of seconds.

You'd think these types would learn from Hollywood movies. Any time a villain in a Hollywood movie gets into a helicopter, you _know_ they are doomed.

(cf John Lithgow in Cliffhanger, Jeremy Irons in Die Hard 2, Craig Bierko in The Long Kiss Goodnight...)

The timing is interesting.

In what way? It does seem an odd coincidence it happened so soon after the Slovakian pro-Putin guy got shot, but I tend to agree with what someone else here said - that he wasn't the most powerful or significant figure of the Iranian leadership, so what would be the plan in going after him particularly?

From my understanding, he was likely next in line for the Supreme Leader, it'll likely cause quite a shakeup in the upper echelons of leadership with a vacuum appearing.

That would seem to suggest that _if_ it's not just an accident (and another illustration of how lethal helicopters seem to be as modes of transport - not only for fictional Hollywood villains, they seem to have killed quite a few celebrities and rich dudes over the years), it might, I suppose, be a consequence of some internal power struggle.

Very curious timing though, most assassination attempts don't lie in wait for a specific weather condition. More likely someone just fucked up a flight plan or maintenance with dire consequences, but it's fun to speculate. I bet at least one person will be murdered over it, too.
