Oh God, not again.

Stephen Sommers makes good entertaining summer schlock. The first Mummy was good. Van Helsing was appropriately corny.

By now, I think they've sort of beat this thing to death.

They beat it to death in the second movie. Any movie can only handle so many special effects. If it's too unbelievable, it goes from being scary/exciting to boring.

In other words, you start to comment on how unlikely things are rather than to get into the moment. Mummy 2 was totally like that in my opinion...

what, no Brendan Fraser?

"The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Brendan Fraser returns as explorer Rick O?Connell to combat the resurrected Han Emperor (Jet Li) in an epic that races from the catacombs of ancient China high into the frigid Himalayas. Rick is joined in this all-new adventure by son Alex (newcomer Luke Ford), wife Evelyn (Maria Bello) and her brother, Jonathan (John Hannah). And this time, the O?Connells must stop a mummy awoken from a 2,000-year-old curse who threatens to plunge the world into his merciless, unending service. "

How new and original!

With 100% more Wire-Fu!

IMO, The Mummy is one of the most entertaining series made. Great special effects, kinda scary, kinda funny...Pirates of the Carribean is right in the same vein, if you think about it.

I will miss Rachel; she's hot like fire. And she and Fraser play off each other very well. I can't believe Jet Li as The Mummy though....that's too weird. Mummy's dont' do karate...

Like they did with The Oracle in the last installment of The Matrix series. She was totally not believable in that role. I wonder why they did that? Old Oracle got too greedy, maybe? She die?

She died.

Mary Alice played The Oracle because Gloria Foster died of complications from diabetes before her role in Matrix Revolutions was shot; however the change in actresses led to a powerful development in the character of the Oracle that might not have been present otherwise, as it allowed insight to her relation to the nature of choice and the consequences of one's choices.

No Rachel Weisz... No problem. Her character was fun/quirky in the first one, but in the second one, she had a few 'high-profile' movies under her belt, and he showed on camera. While she didn't have a stick up her ass, it just didn't work as well. Maybe you can call it character development...

Please tell me that little prick from Mummy 2 won't be there! Very annoying kid. This one looks like a pretty cool concept.

They seemed to play off each other so well.

What she meant:
"Unlike Brendan Fraser, I still have a career"

saw the screener tonight...if you liked the first two, then you should like this one...action is pretty good but there was one thing they could have done without (actually there were 3 of them) but I wont' spoil it for anyone, but it was exactly what it was supposed to be. Not much jet li as jet li in the movie though...

"Makes the first two Mummy films seem like The Godfather I and II. "

"The Mummy series has been dead for a long time, but like the mummies it depicts, it won't stay buried."

"Seeking box office gold with pretty good special effects and third-rate writing and failing spectacularly, that failure is, in fact, the only spectacular thing happening on screen."

Reviews seem to be reflecting my thoughts from the very first moment I saw the trailer. When I first caught the gist of the concept, I thought it could be really cool...but only if it had been done as the Mummy 2 instead of the rinse and repeat job they ended up doing there instead. This movie is just trying to one up the previous two combined, and unnecessarily so.

Making movies is kind of like cooking...the movie makers find out the audience likes a certain dish and instead of trying to take the spirit of what made that dish good and then recreating it with something new, they just increase the portions, or double up on certain ingredients, or add in more flavors...all without thought as to the consequence of such actions...

Did anyone see this over the weekend?

Was it as bad as the reviews make it out to be?

Box office receipts put it in a close second to the Dark Knight. Haven't seen it, but it would probably make for some good/brainless fun.
