I just got the movie just to pass the time, but it ended up being great. Mickey Rourke did an awesome job. Apparently, they did as much research as possible to make the movie as real as possible. Great movie!

Umm, so they researched wrestling .... to make the movie as real as possible?

Can you clarify what was so real?

The next time you have a thought... let it go.

I thought the movie was, meh. Nothing fantastic. Weird thing was, I enjoyed Notorious MUCH more. And I didn't even know much about the guy. Didn't even listen to his music.

Rourke was robbed from the Oscar! He was made for this role. At least he won other awards for his performance.

Good to see that at least his career has taken off from this movie.

yea, pretty much prop 8 voting. sean penn can go suck an egg.

Eh, i thought it was good.

But amazing, like tons of awards-winning amazing, no.

Not sure it deserves the all the hype it got.

I agree. The best part of this film was Marisa, and I didn't even know she was in it.

I thought it was good, not great. While Rourke's performance is impressive, it seems like he's basically just playing himself . . .

Not Training Day (which is my favorite performance by Washington).

Are you guys big wrestling fans? I watched this last night, and after hearing all the good hype.. I was kinda disappointed. I have a theory that non-wrestling fans would enjoy it more. As a former hardcore wrestling fan, I consider myself pretty well informed about the struggles/dark sides of the out of the ring lifes of these guys. Someone who only has passing knowledge about it however might find it more shocking/interesting and whatnot.

Having said that, I thought it did an amazing job at showcasing their lives outside the ring, and still give it two thumbs up.

I just finished watching this movie and there were several points during the movie that I was in tears. Honestly, this is a such a real movie...coming from a family that was, shall we say, less than perfect...it really struck a chord with me.

People are flawed, and they sometimes disappoint, this is reality and reality hurts.

Edit-And I fucking hate fake wrestling. This movie was a huge win though.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I'm not a wrestling fan, haven't watched it since I was a kid, but I saw this movie the other night and thought it was pretty good. Marisa Tomei was the icing on the cake, she was damn hot.

Great film. Had tears in my eyes at the end. Solid, honest performance from Rouke that should have earned him an Oscar, IMHO.

I saw this movie two weeks ago and thought it was average. I enjoy Aronofsky's work, hell I love The Fountain, but this film was just on par.

I understand all of the subtleties and that it's supposed to feel real and raw, but this one just didn't do it for me.

I didn't care for his final speech to the audience. I thought it was unnecessary and dumbed down of the movie. If the viewer had been paying attention throughout the film you'd already understand what the character was striving for.

I didn't care for the handheld, first shot of the film. I couldn't believe Aronofsky was doing that, but about 4-5 scenes into the film it made perfect sense; especially with Rourke's back to the screen the majority of the time.

Thought the movie was very good, but I personally liked Gran Torino better.
