Where can I find a list of all the video cards from the last few years, sorted in order of overall gaming performance? (Bonus points if the list includes TDP measurements / PSU requirements.)

I need to buy a decent PCI-express gaming card, and have no problem with buying used gear, but I have no idea which is faster -- this year's mid-range, last year's high-end, GS, GT, GTO, GTX, GX2, XT, XTX, Pro...

Thanks!

Tom's hardware has some VGA charts, but if you tell us your budget, other system specs, and what kind of games you need to play, we can give you pretty good suggestions.

Personally I think the best list of all video cards is here at the forum. You post it, we'll recommend it. We'll even save your time by eliminating options right from the get-go!

The bolded is probably listed least powerful to most powerful. For a budget gaming system, you should have just 2 options: 7600gt or x850xt. Either can be found for ~$140. For a midrange, the x1800xt has come down to ~$225 shipped, and the 7900gt, ~$240 shipped. Good deals on both, the x1800xt is better stock, but with a little vmodding and a good aftermarket heatsink, you'll have a 7900gtx equivilent in the 7900gt. As for high end, the 7900gtx is cool, reletively quiet, and fast. The x1900xt/xtx are powerful but a little loud... scratch that, just loud, and the 7950gx2 is big, bad and expen$ive. Get it if you have $$$ to drop, b/c it is the best card out there... for now. The x1900xt is a good deal @ $370 shipped and you'll see I think a 20% increase in performance over the x1800xt. Probably your best bet for a $2000 rig. From the sound of your post though, it seems to me that you need a mid range power card... the x1800xt or the 7900gt if you like overclocking. There are many debates to found on these two cards all over the forums. Use the search function. HAPPY BUILDING!:D

Beyond3D has a nice up to date 3D graphic chart that includes the cards and GPU specifications. It can be sorted by column and viewed by chip, board or board images.

Thanks for all the replies!

Acegazda: yes, I'm looking for a budget-to-midrange system. I'll probably end up getting a Dell E510. (Unless somebody has a better suggestion...?) Something like $100 for the card would be perfect.

I mostly want to be able to run HL2, Dreamfall, UT2k4, and if possible (crossing fingers) UT2k7 when it comes out.

According to the chart on Beyond 3D, the X850 XT is way faster than the 7600 GT. Is that right?

Any other cards I should consider?

Does it matter which manufacturer makes the card?

Thanks again!

However, the x850xt doesn't have SM3.

The chart doesn't really give performance, only specifications.

The X850XT is even with a reference clocked 7600GT in most cases. Many factory OC'd models can beat a X850XT, especially in newer games.

That list on HardForum is great. Now all we need is a mashup of that list + pricegrabber (or ebay)...
