The most wierdest thing just happened with me and Dell

----------------------------------------------------

Quick Background: mastercard reported that my Credit Card has been compromised and they were immediately sending out a new credit card within 5 days. I asked if i can continue using my old CC until I received my new one and Mastercard said yes. So today I log on to my Account management and it states that my account is closed pending new card and etc... so i was confused but whatever.

So I ordered a Dell 2405 for about 800 bucks after taxes, (739.20 before taxes) today (hot deals forum). I used my master card. 2 hours later, Dell emails me back saying that My CC was declined.

So im pondering and pondering, should I sign up for Dell's DPA account (dell's credit card) and receive an extra 2% discount OR should I use one of my back up credit cards.

So after I'm pondering this in the shower, I come back to my PC and find 2 calls missed on my cell phone from some 310 area code number back to back. Then 310 calls me again and it's someone from dell, he goes "hi this is pete from dell how are you"

me: im fine. this is about the credit card rejected right?

pete: (lauging) yes it is

me: okay sorry about that, im getting a new CC number, but let me ask you, if... IF i sign up for the DPA account do you know if i will have at least 802 credit for the monitor because i dont want to sign up and still have to use another CC. Else i can just use my other CC solely.

pete: uh, i really dont know sir

me: hmm

(silence on the line for about 1 min)

Pete: (out of nowhere) uhh, i can make your order $703 before taxes.

me: im sorry what?

Pete: if you want, uh, i have a coupon, and so i can give you a better price. Instead of 739.20, I'll make it 703.

me: uhh.... err....., uhmm...., OKAY THANKS!

he puts me on hold and processes my order and i pay using my American Express.

so instead of $801.11 shipped on my mastercard, i now paid $761.88 shipped on my Amex.

he gave me my confirmation number, confirmed my address on file and asked me if there was anything else i wanted that he can give me a great price for. I couldnt think of any and so the call ended.

That was so freakin randomly wierd.

Are you sure it was Dell?

I never give out my CC on the phone unless I am sure who it is.

yeah im sure, he had all my information about the order ready.

many companies really dont allow you to give your credit info over the phone. they are supposed to make you fax info to them. for ex, home depot. people still do it anyways just because its faster and easier.

holy cow...
i wanted to get in on that deal. it was 800 shipped for me too. about 50 more than i wanna pay. you should have asked for that coupon code.
I wonder if you can still call back and ask them what coupon codes were applied? (for AT's sake at least 😛 )

Idk about that. I remember my dad when he ordered a PC or two from Dell, he gave the number over the phone (no fax required).

I gave Dell my cc number over the phone yesterday to order a replacement LCD panel for a Latitude.
