True. It was underrated when I was in high school.

I'm more of an action movie type and The Island was severely underrated. The marketing was non-existant and people didn't want to see a story about cloning, supposedly. It was also Scarlett's hottest appearance.

No kidding.

I agree with ya. IIRC a lot of people complained about product placement in this move, or the overabundance of it. To me it works perfectly in the framework of the future that is shown in the film. I'm always a sucker for a future dystopian style movie though. 😀

Rounders.

I suppose I'll edit this, maybe not so much anymore with the poker craze of late, but I think initially it was a little underrated.

FYI: Anyone that votes Donnie Darko or Boondock Saints is a tool.

Agreed. Boondock Saints bordered on unwatchable, yet people who like it talk about it like it's Godfather II.

Some others are:

Blood Simple
Ghost World
John Carpenter's The Thing (a brilliant movie that was ravaged by critics when it came out)

hah i agree w/your FYI ... both those movies were terrible.

and I agree w/rh71 .. The Island was an amazing movie that got such bad criticism, and scarlett was so hot in it.

More Recent Films: Julien Donkey Boy, Bubbah Ho Tep, Tokyo Zombie, and The Idiots.
Older Films: The Omega Man, Cube, Soylent Green, Eraserhead, and Westworld.

Boondock Saints. I don't care what the above posters posted, outside of your little pool of online friends the movie isn't very well known.

I'll add Starship Troopers and Robocop. Robocop's repution was destroyed by it's sequels, which were all trash IMO, but the original was an amazing movie.

Starship Troopers is underrated because people expected one of the following- a movie based exactly on the book, or an action movie like Star Wars. While on the surface the movie might seem to be a typical space action movie, it's really a political satire and viewed from that perspective it's a great movie. so what if it isn't exactly like the book, I read the book too and IMO a movie based exactly on the book would have been a very long and very boring movie, like The Thin Red Line.

are you friggin kidding me? Everyone aged 15-35 now knows what Boondock Saints is.
And no, Starship Troopers sucked too. This also is one where people think they are the only ones in the whole damn world to get the underlying theme. And they assume the haters didn't get it.

Get this:
It wasn't that subtle. It is actually quite forced.

The only part I liked is the main part of theme music.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as underrated, but I always thought The Good Shepherd didn't quite get the respect I thought it deserved. I think the same of Ocean's Twelve.

From imdb.com:

Boondock Saints
User Rating: 7.8/10 (53,353 votes)

Pulp Fiction
User Rating: 8.9/10 (276,086 votes)

So, no, I wouldn't say "everyone" has seen it. Thats about 20% of the people who have seen Pulp Fiction. I realize using the number of votes on imdb isn't a 100% accurate measure, but do you have a better source?

As far as Starship Troopers, as a parody/satire it's supposed to be forced. Thats an odd complaint to make.
