I'm really sorry to hear that! At least it was a Dell! ;) I've never really purchased a name brand PC except for maybe a Tandy 1000 back in the early 90's.

Wow- I'm glad I've never bought a full system and have only upgraded throughout the years. My T-Bird 1.1 ghz should be coming in 3 days! Oh, but admist all my upgrading, I did once blow up (short-circuit) the motherboard for a 486 slc-2 66. It was time for a pentium anyways so I did myself a favor (though my dad got pretty mad).

I've only bought one complete system. My first one. It was an SX2-50 IBM. I think it was $1,495 at Walmart.

I've just been buying pieces since.

THOUGH, I remember the MOST Expensive Upgrade/system I did....

In 1996, I placed this order:
I bought a P54c 166mhz chip - $749
4 - 8meg SIMMS @ $140 each - $560
ASUS Motherboard - $210
Diamond Stealth 3200 2meg Vid card - $275
$1794

I added that to the system I already had bought a few months before:
AT case ($80)
3.2 gig Fireball ($325)
8x CDROM ($150)
SB AWE32 sound ($150)
28.8 supra modem ($200)
17" monitor ($600)

I think all that stuff had costs me around $1,500

So I was sitting on a $3,300 system.

I did have the FASTEST System in my LAN gaming group. :Q

10MB Hard Drive
360K 5.25" Floppy
