The Most Anticipated MMORPG

D&D looks really cool, it rules as a pen and paper game and it'll rule as a mmorpg I'm sure!

It's going to be closer to Guildwars than a real MMOG. But that's fine with me actually. I think that's the only way it can succeed. I'm hoping that everytime you go out it'll be like an adventure, rather than the grind repetitive grind that was Guildwars.

It seems 90% of current MMORPGs are high fantasy, and 95% of the newcomers are also high fantasy.... That's pretty dull.

Where are all the new sci-fi MMORPGs? :frown: It doesn't matter how much more people would rather play a high fantasy game, because the market is too saturated anyways.

EVE, MXO, Auto Assault, Anarchy Online, to name a few.

Played most of those..

I meant upcoming MMORPGS. 😉

With Vanguard, don't expect anything but a game for hardcore grouping and level grinding. Brad McQuaid is responsible, in large part, for EQ being such a grind and camp fest.

Darkfall Online, if it stays true to the original version, will be fantastic but still will be missing the carebear element that really flesh out an MMO.

I expect absoutely NOTHING worthwhile from anything Turbine has in store including D&D and LOTR.

EA seems content to layer expansion pack upon expansion pack on UO....we're up to 8 now I think. Quantitiy over quality.

Garriott has been left behind. His original ideas for Tabula Rasa were mundane even back then and his revamped version is nothing but a paltry stab at finding a niche market between FPSs and MMORPGs to give his company enough credibility to keep a developer.

The list of upcoming MMORPG released on mmorpg.com reads like a joke. RF Online, Parfait Station, Flyff.

Mythic wisely scrapped their contrived next gen game.

To be honest, I'm not he least bit interested nor excited about any MMORPG announced.

The next great one will come from a franchise, I know that. Some big name as yet untapped. It will probably involve Raph Koster whose experience with UO and SWG surely makes him the absolute king of MMORPG design at this point thanks to what he's learned from mistakes and successes with both games.

Auto Assault came out less than a month ago! MXO less than a year. What more do you want?

Come now, even after they released the best selling stellar title of Asherons Call 2? Why, I swear, all 23-150 people on the servers just LOVED the game! I mean who would not love nerf after nerf, the challenge, the chore, the work!

Vanguard might be good, if they don't make the entire game camping based... still, its not hard to beat today's titles which all have severe flaws.

Bad wording on my part, I meant upcoming, not new.

The sci-fi MMORPGs out today are all flawed for me, and I eventually had to leave. I'm waiting for an upcoming one to perhaps be closer to the ideal game for me. At the very least, an upcoming one will keep me interested long enough.

Vanguard Saga of Heroes

This will be my next MMORPG. It is being made by a team composed of a good deal of ex Everquest 1 dev team members.

Wow. Some of the screenshots on that website remind of this Penny Arcade news post (scroll down to the screenshot and surrounding comments).

Sorry you feel that way. I'm looking forward to this title in a huge way 🙂

You've got to be kidding? The screenshots are as good as any games that are out right now, including games like FEAR.

BTW, they're using the Unreal 3 engine.

Darkfall! Not sure when but I'm sure darkfallonline.com will have the info.

Definitely. I'm not fond of EQ clones.

Heh, you only really need to see the drawing of the scantily-clad, big-breasted woman on the front page to know that EQ people are behind it.
