The more I think about the debate...

The more I think Bore blew it. When I first watched it, I thought he pretty much man-handled Bush. But, going over it in my mind, I think he may have been too slick by half.

He came off as flippant, arrogant and rude. He was constantly shaking his head, rolling his eyes, sniggering, and interrupting. I've got a hunch that this is NOT going to play well with the soccer Moms. If he loses them, it's over and Bush wins.

I don't think it changed people's minds. Bush did not act as dumb as the media try's to portray him but Gore also outdid him in quick responses and in speach composition. Some people think this matters more than the policies they represent and the actual facts that they do not reveal (not me). So therefore, Gore may have come out ahead a little bit. I am not sure. It wasn't nearly as good as I had hoped it would be. I hope the vice presidential debate is more exciting. Dick is a better public speaker than George is. Joe has a lot of explaining to do so it might be a good debate if Dick grills him on it.

ya i think Bush did what your supposed to do in a debate: show where you stand on issues.

Gore took the childish route, and tried to make Bush look stupid.

And people put way to much emphasis on who sounded better, or was a better speaker, but really what you are supposed to get out of these is where each candidate stands on the issues. Funny how yesterday MSN ran an article that said Bush got "his clock cleaned" but really gore made an ass of himself.

I wouldn't say he blew it, but there really can't be a winner in this type of thing either. I would say (reminder: I'm a bush man hehe) that gore came off as more informed with mor eintelligent answers. But gore is also very familiar and comfortable with this debate format. I'm guessing the scales will be tilting in the other direction at the next debate with the more casual setting. I really couldnt care less about the town hall type debate though where a bunch of people just ask dumb questions

Edit: By no means though do I mean to say that either candidate appears to be stupid. I was really hoping to hear some nice smart ass quips, but really there weren't any....

Well, personally I think Gore knows a lot more about politics than bush. He has been in it his whole life because that is what his dream is, i think bush is just some little rich boy who wants to play president like his dad did. I think bush carries himself better and has a better image but doesn't have the knowledge of policies and knowledge of who to run things. I think gore would do a better job, but may not get the vote because of his image.

This is what I thought, and still do. But, there are multiple ways to win, and lose a debate. One of the ways to lose is to piss off the scoring judges. In this case, the judges are the people who watched.

your right, gore does know a lot about politics, i mean, he got to sit in front of congress for 8 years, not accomplish anything, promise that he will over the next 4 years, and still have half to american population backing him!

that is pretty damn good politics if you ask me.

So what if Gore came as arrogant and a bit rude. Hell, I WANT THAT! Not only does he know his stuff and &quot;policy,&quot; but he's got that attitude to back it up. How many of you would just sit there and let someone run over you? Bush says something I don't like (or tells lies on me), I'm gonna cut his throat right there on TV. I want a president who isn't gonna sit back and take it up the ass when he's over there dealing with the Arafats and Hueseins of the world. I want a president that has an itchy trigger finger while smoking a cig, and downing a Colt 45 with his hand on the little red button to blow Milosevic all to hell.

That's fine for you, but you are not the target of the debate. Bore already has you. The target is the swing voter, consisting mostly of the more sensitive among us.

The goal of the debate was to garner additional support from the undecided's. The base is already wrapped up for both candidates. Bore will not achieve that goal by irritating and angering those he's trying to convince.

That was more of a unloading for me than a true statement Either way, Gore was pretty damn arrogant with all the hmmmmmmmmming and haaaaaaaing. I couldn't believe that he was doing that crap so damn loud.

But if I were a swing voter, I'd still be unimpressed by either one. Gore - the brainac politician with the arrogance to back it up, or Bush - the loveable goofball that gets along with everybody, but seems 1 meg short of a gig.

From what the pundits have been putting out and all those focus groups that the media gave us after the debate,I gather the debate was a draw among swing voters. Of course,I did focus on statements from some who changed and declared they would vote for Gore because of his policy and his persona that he is more informed on issues and more &quot;Presidential&quot; in stature.

But I think it was too close to call. They both have major major problems in the credibility department.

I get so damn tired of Political promises esp. from one who didn't pull through in the last 8years and the other who's Papa promised no new taxes then got away with it by raising the current/old ones.

I do think that the ending was strong when Bush emphisized that the public tax money should NOT fund Political Candidates cause that in effect gives people no choice just the Parties.

Red, I agree with you why would anyone vote for either Bush or Gore. Sounds like you are starting to see the light, now all you need to do is decide that voting for a third party canidate is NOT trowing your vote away.

I think Chris Mathews (talk show host of &quot;Hardball&quot had it right when he said that had it not been for our constitutional duty to hold this election,no one would vote at all for either of these two candidates. The electorate is quite happy with the status quo,and I'm inclined to believe he is right.

You got it Red and what's worse is that both Parties have better and more qualified individuals who just won't be Puppeteers so they refuse to run

Red, Isn't their a ballot issue in Cali about adding non of the above as a choice. I think that if non of the above was an option and if it won the position would be eliminated you would see much better canidates run for office. The politicans would be afraid of loosing a job, just like in baseball you wont see the AL get rid of the DH because it would mean the loss of a job.
