Somehow it just wouldn't be the same if Hardware actually put up a link. :)

Everyone is certainly going to be impressed.. impressed with how much money NVIDIA is charging... well impressed isn't the word. Pissed off is the better word. :)

Hardware, you suck. Why didn't you continue your recent trend of posting a link followed by hundreds of "look at me everybody!!" exclamation marks?

Aww Snow Patrol, you're just supposed to say "Hardware, you suck" with nothing else :) You ruined it :)

Oh man we've been awhile without one of these good old hardware posts :) Let the fun begin!

Did you take a look at the link before you posted it?
LOL :D

It's some sort of picture with a naked guy in a bathroom!

I did not see anything related to nVidia or anything hardware for that matter.

How much are they going to charge?

Well they'd told me they were expecting $500 about 2 1/2 months - 3 months ago. I recently speculated that it would actually be $450 and maybe $400, however recently I've found some things that make me believe that $500 is it. Actually though, the article at 3DSpotlight said something like $550. Whatever it is though, it is expensive. The chip itself is not only expensive to make, but the markup for boardmakers is high (talking around $100 per-chip) and then the memory price for 250 MHz DDR. It isn't going to be cheap, and when it first ships don't expect large volumes. Frankly, even if I didn't work for 3dfx I simply wouldn't buy one (of course that too is based on knowing what I know :)).

If this beast is what everyone is saying it is going to be, and it's priced right for the performance it offers, I will certainly consider buying one. I just hope the 2D isn't going to be as bad as most of the nVidia boards out there. I have a TNT2U currently and the 2D is absolutely fine, but my friend's GF2 MX, and another friend's GF2 Ultra both are plagued with blurry 2D.

I'm not paying $500, that's for sure.

It'll probably be the same price as the Ultra is now, and the ultra will drop in price by Feb/March or whenever the NV20 goes public.

Well to get a general idea of things just read Abrash's article on X-box. That article pretty well covers it (and saves me a lot of typing :)).

Geez Dave, like the Rampage won't cost $500 when it comes out. That is the natural way of things. They start out high and gradually come down. Hopefully the card will come down to around 300-350 in about 2.5 months, that is somewhat reasonable. Dave, when the NV20 comes out it will destroy everything currently on the market, period.

Lol. Talk from somebody entirely clueless. Gotta love that. So you know how much Rampage is going to cost eh? REALLY. That is interesting. As for NV20 being so wonderful, we can already say how fast it is going to be. Overclock a GF Ultra's memory by 20 MHz and add 30% more memory bandwidth into the factor and you have your performance gain. So figure it will be able to use about 1/2 its actual speced performance.

<< Nobody. However, doing that is stupid... well don't tell NVIDIA that... >>

So it's the same as saying that the NV20 will be $500 ;) What goes around comes around...

Do you know what a link is Hardware? There those little lines of blue text that you click on that take you places on the web.

No, not the same thing at all. NVIDIA doesn't have a choice if they want their product to be competitive (because 1) their die size is growing way too quickly and 2) because they need the absolute latest in memory tech).. That is the difference. Also, you act like I'm making up the price of $500. I'm not.

50 to 60 million transistors is a lot of real estate even at .15. add in the fact that nvidia is guinea pigging that process (neither intel or amd will be there for at least 6 months) plus some really high speed (read: expensive) ram and you get something that costs $$$.

dave - i went to 3dspotlight and looked at the articles but didn't see anything on the xbox. care to drop a link?

i know the stuff that goes into it is expensive and all, but is the performance gain from a GeForce2 to a NV20 really worth more than doubling the cost of the card? i have to know what others think about this, with the other video cards too i see this happening. seems to me that the CPU should be the most expensive part of the computer, not the video card. for example, i just bought a computer. i paid $210 for the video (a Creative Annihilator 2) and $280 for the processer (AMD T-Bird 1GHz). now, if i can pay 280 dollars for a GHz processer, why should i pay 500 for a video card, whatever the speed and image quality, when i can probably just muscle the rendering through with my processer, for less money?
