Question The monitor has probably finished its work - what about

I've been using a good quality LCD monitor NEC2690WUXi for about a year as a display for internet TV via hdmi cable with splitter for audio to soundbar. I don't know if this use has caused the malfunction, which is displayed by a broken picture, see first photo. The second photo should show the monitor menu, which is also crumbled. I tried connecting it to a normal pc, it does it all the time. I.e. it probably has reached the end of its useful life and is to be thrown away? Or is it worth repairing? I wouldn't ask here, but it wasn't exactly cheap, however it has served its time. Has anyone encountered anything similar, even with other types?
Thanks for any advice or responses
Peter

Since that model is 15 years old, I would guess it's toast, and not worth repairing.

Although it may not have been cheap, a bigger, much better quality monitor can be had now for under $200.

Pop it open and check the ribbon cables and reseat them. If it doesn't change the output then either take it in for a diagnosis or replace it.

At its age, small size, and only 1920x1200 resolution, it is worth little, too little to pay someone else for repair and also too little for the mainboard if that has failed.

If you are set up to do it, you could pop it open, check for vented capacitors, (and the ribbon cables as Tech Junky mentioned) and reattach cables (but why would they have come loose?) or replace some capacitors for under $10 (if located in the US where we have reasonably priced electronics suppliers) if you are fairly good at soldering, but otherwise it would seem that the repair cost would exceed the remaining value in it.

The good news is that if you only need a monitor for internet TV, there are 1080p sets dirt cheap these days in larger sizes than that ($100 or less) if you don't want/need a 4K set. I will leave it to others to argue about picture quality vs price.

It was a nice monitor for back in the day. I used to have an NEC. I was sad when it died. Your monitor lived a long life. Now, you have a good excuse to get a better one.
