I recieved an early christmas present, a samsung 191T. Problem is it started acting up recently. After a month, the monitor just turns off. It randomly turns off. I changed sources from digital to analogue, nothing. Different power sources, nada. Different computers, nada. It still does it. And I notice the longer its over the longer it stays on. For example if I turn it off for 2 hours it stays on for 10 mins. If I leave it off for a half hour it turns off after like 2 mins... The point is it shouldn't turn off in the first place, but it does. Has anyone had a problem like this before? I don't think newegg will rma it, I have to rma it through Samsung USA. Any experience through that? Also just before it shuts off, the backlight or something starts switching color, like when you get lightheaded and are about to fient. Please helpt it's a very expensive monitor, and I need one. Thank you.

Definately sounds like a hardware problem to me. Probably a heat short by your symptoms.

Since you bought from NewEgg they're pretty strict about the 30 days, so go directly to Samsung USA. They should handle this for you. I own the 213T but I've never dealt with Samsung on RMA before. Anyone else work with them?

I had to RMA a Samsung 955DF 19" CRT monitor that died after 3 months use. I contacted Samsung and they made arrangements for a new monitor to be shipped to me by a freight company, (not UPS or Fed Ex). When the driver came to my house, he brought in the new monitor, opened the box, took it out and put the old one in the box. He then left. I was pleased to get a replacement without having to pay shipping back to the company.

My Gateway 19" refurb that I bought a couple years ago had a similar problem. It would be working fine, but with increasing frequency the picture would fade to black over the course of a few seconds. Sorta like it lost power, however the power led would still be on. Smacking the monitor with my hand would bring the picture back sometimes. I ended up having to open it up and resolder the connection (7-8 large pins) between the back of the CRT tube and a circuitboard. It's been working flawlessy ever since.

Does hitting the monitor have any effect on the problem? If so it's probably a loose solder connection somewhere and you may be able to fix it yourself. However, I wouldn't recommend opening up a monitor for any reason if you don't know what you're doing. If you're not comfortable with that then you should definately try to RMA it back to Samsung.
