The Mojave Experiment

Welcome to the "Mojave Experiment"

What do people think of Windows Vista when they don't know it's Windows Vista?

We disguised Windows Vista as codename "Mojave", the next Microsoft OS"...

Interesting! :D

Thought I would bump this... since the topic came up in another thread (02/07/2009).
Amaze your friends and co-workers with this revelation - no reason to credit me.
Pretend like you have a 138 IQ and figured it out on your own... LoL!

edit: I prefer xp over vista, however, vista does have many visual improvements and advancements. The reason xp is still used here is because of it's lightweight feel & exceptional performance. If vista was able to capitalize on these two things while still maintaining the revamped look & unique feel, I would be all in.

If you've got nothing better to do with your time, get Vista and you can spend all day messing with it trying to get it to work right.

While I'm not surprised that people have positive 10 min experiences with Vista running on pre-vetted systems without random hardware and software, even such a clever PR stunt is not going to be enough to break past the years of accumulated FUD against vista.

Bashing Vista is popular. That's the problem. You do that, and you're supposedly intelligent, or knowledgeable, or whatever. Most of the folks who stomp on Vista have never used it.

Indeed. Although to be fair, Vista has its share of problems, a fair amount of them quite legitimate and not just FUD.

I have been using Vista since release with different hardware configurations and have never come across a problem directly associated with the Operating System- it is a fine OS. Firstly Vista is selling well, secondly Vista does have a bandwagon effect from people who have little knowledge of it or have never used it. Most issues you see arise from many online forums in which people blame Vista usually has nothing to do with the OS itself, but because people cannot properly troubleshoot and say 'oh well it must be Vista then'. The Mohave Experiment is pretty funny IMO, I bet those people are feeling like hypocrites.

The sequel to the Mohave Experiment

'This time we let them use it for more then 5 seconds... After a few bricked AMD machines, forced update installs and reboots, and a few hundred "are you sure" prompts", I'm lucky to have escaped with my life!'

p.s. to all the vista people, this is to be taken lightly. its written purely for fun.

No joke...

SOURCE

Of the 140 respondents polled:

- The average pre-demo Vista score was 4.4 (on a 1 to 10 scale)

- The average post-demo Mojave score was 8.5

Many said they would have rated it higher, but wanted more time to play with it themselves!

Windows Vista User Feedback (in a seperate research study)

- 89% of users expressed satisfaction with it.

- 83% of users would recommend it to a friend or family.

Its funny to hear people today loving the 'lightweight' feel of XP, when these same people were likely the one's bitching the loudest about its bloatedness at its release.

Been running it two years now and in that time it's given me less trouble than XP. nVidia drivers were pretty piss poor at first but thats a faded memory now.

I still hear people telling me how bad MY computer runs (like how the fvck would they know?). It happens on this board a lot too.

The experiment is fairly legit. None of those people knew anything about Vista but all of them had a horrible opinion. That is pretty much the definition of FUD.

Definitely, People seem to forget that XP was built 7 years ago and for hardware thats by today's standard is quite slow. I remember when XP was released and much more people were complaining about its bloatness and how Windows 2000 was just what you needed and XP didn't bring anything new to the table except a new UI and a few features. Now is the exact same story for Vista, except this time Microsoft is not taking the same absurdly amount of time developing the next iteration of Windows probably in fear of what happened with XP might happen with Vista if they wait 7 years to release another windows.

Anyways, thats just me and my opinions.

When XP came out 128mb ram was common and 256mb was recommended.

People assume that every XP box in the world has 1 to 2GB of ram.

Try running OSX or Linux with 128mb ram as a desktop OS with virtualization and gaming and all sorts of other stuff.

Gee I install it and go. What problems do you have that take all day to fix?

not exactly.

windows xp became quite popular very quickly because xp was actually more compatible than windows 2000, in both software and hardware.

He didn't say he had problems with it. He's never used Vista. He says YOU'll have problems with it because the Mac commercial told him so.

The problem was the drivers not being mature when Vista came out. I saw a benchmark of games in XP with SP2 and SP3 vs Vista SP1 and they were neck, and neck now. Also let's not forget that Dell, Acer, HP, and all those vendors typically love to bloat their machines down with pre-installed Norton, and Mcafee along with a ton of other memory eating processes. That on top of Vista consuming more memory than XP will slow any system down. I have 4 GB in my machine, and on a fresh boot Vista eats around 800-900 MB of memory. I've seen some machines have over 100 processes right out of the box with Vista because of pre-loaded crap.

Vista itself on a fresh install is a very solid operating system. They tried with UAC what most of us System Admins have been which was not let users run in local administrator mode always so they can destroy their own computers because most people are fucking dolts, and cannot be trusted. Anyone that worked in a Computer shop any time in their it career knows how bad the Spyware, Adware, and Viri are in general now on peoples machines, and how raped XP was in the end by all this stuff. It's time to move on, and Vista is a starting point. If you don't like Vista, you probably won't like Windows 7 either. Adopt or get passed by while everyone else increases their knowledge while you stay in your safe world. and eventually replaced by someone who knows the new stuff.

Yep, which is really the point of the whole exercise. The biggest detractors of Vista are typically people that know very little about it, or have never even used it.

I have friends that have argued for hours on how bad Vista is, but when I ask them one simple question, the answer is No.

The Question: "Have you ever used Vista before?"

LOL! Not to bust your stones unnecessarily, or start something, but did you even look to see what was shown? It's very clearly Vista.

Don't assume they are dishonest either.

But, as the link shows MS specifically targeted people that have never used Vista with the Mojave Experiment. So, of course they aren't going to recognize it as Vista since they have never seen it before. The idea was to demonstrate that people who have never experienced Vista at all have a negative impression and one that isn't really based on fact.

Vista runs fine on a quad core with 6gb of memory which is becoming more and more common.
