Hey Bar81, thanks for putting in the work and posting so much useful info. I'm going to give the DTR 3200+ 1MB a shot and see if I like it paired up with my Soltek NF3 250GB (ISS - thanks for testing it out). :) I'll report back with results when I receive the chip late next week.

I'm using the Epox 8KDA3+ and having a hard time booting with my DTR Mobile. The bios is Flashed to the newest one on EPox site, with my newcastle. I've allready done the Cpu volt mod(I can see it working), but not the ram volt mod yet. My newcastle gets +.2 volts at around 8.5k ohms. I'm not sure what I should set my pot to get 1.5volts with my DTR mobile to get it to boot. I've move the pot down from 8.5k ohms to 2k ohms with no boot on my mobile. the Cpu doesn't get hot at all. The MB LCD displays reads 29 with or with out the volt mod. I think i've read some where about a beta bios that works with mobiles? Can some one give me that link.

Sorry about my writing it's 1AM and just had a long day.

I read through all the posts and took me 3 hours and in the end I'm confused if I should get a AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 1MB L2 Cache, 64-bit Processor for DTR Notebooks- OEM. I already bought MSI K8N Neo Platinum with 1Gb Corsair 3200XL and need to buy CPU and heatsink/fan.
The first post says that MSI is terrible for the mobile CPU's but later in the posts that it seems that it works with bios 1.1.
Can somebody clarify that, if they know or have experience. I wanted to get a Athlon 64 3200 ClawHammer and clock it to about 2.4GHz. I can't find any of these so now I'm debating over 3200 NewCastle or the 3200 DTR with 1Mb L2 cache.
Thank you.

I got my Mobile to boot in the Epox 8KDA3+. I'm useing the new bios from Epox as of 9/13/04. It will not boot untill the muliplier is moved from auto and set to a muliplier you cpu can take. The only way to do this is with other cpu. If the Bios ever gets reset or flashed the cpu muliplier will default to auto and will not boot. After this it boots to 800mhz, and 1.1 volts. Just go in the bios set the cpu to a speed and volts you want, and it will work. My 3200 DTR boots to 2400mhz but gets errors in Prime95, at 2200 it works fine. The volts is at 1.65v It might need more for 2400mhz.

You do not need to do a volt mod to get it running. allthough this set up will not work as i do not want to keep an extra cpu just i can reset the bios if i overclock to much.

Thanks for that, I'll update accordingly.

I've been monitoring the situation since yesterday. Thanks for that. Seems that there are some reboot issues so that it only boots a fraction of the time. Probably a voltage issue. I'll update.

Okay, there's been updates to the available mobile CPUs, a link to AMD's Processor Data Sheet has been added as well as information regarding the differences between mobile and desktop A64s and most importantly of all to the supported motherboards list.

To all MSI K8N Neo Platinum Users! I think all our complains have been read and answered. MSI has released beta 1.52 and it works like a charm!! My mobile 2800 can finally stretch its legs. No issues with clearing CMOS too.

I am using MSI K8N Neo Palatinum and Zalman Cu 7000a. I have changed the original to a slightly more powerful Panaflo one.

actually its a 41% overclock. Impressive, yet somewhate expected with that core and the right mb setup.

Its actually a 59% overclock. My mobile 2800 clockspeed is 1.6GHz as its the 1MB cache version rated at 1.4V, not the 512KB 1.2V version.

Howeer, its still not the max though. My board is hitting the limit. I tried 320 x 8 @ 166MHz for RAM and its not stable regardless of voltage (tried up to 1.65V Vcore and 2.85V for RAM) or RAM settings. Even 133MHz for RAM also couldn't not very stable. :(

Hope the DFI board could enable me to hit 2.6GHz.

I just received the DTR 3200+ from Newegg and it's pretty amazing how much lighter the chip is without the heatspreader. I'll be trying it out after work and report back tonight if all goes well. ;) I just hope it does a little better than the regular 3200+ 1MB I had since that one would only get to ~2.3GHz stable. I'd be thrilled to get 2.5GHz out of it, and plenty happy to get 2.4GHz as long as it will let me run my mem 1:1.

Eh. Math is obviously no longer my strong point. I
gave up after studying BC. It's too hard now.

Curse you crazy 3d shapes! CURSE YOU.

Yea, I hope the DFI can get me more than my
current 2.22 Ghz on my 3200+...

After lots of tweaking over the last couple of hours, I can safely say that the DTR 3200+ doesn't OC any better than the retail 3200+ 1MB chip that I had. It hits a wall around 10x230, just like the retail chip. I guess I'll have to blame the Soltek K8AN2E-GR's 1.55 Vcore limitation. I think I'm going to pick up the DFI NF3 250GB when it's available and see if a little more voltage will get me stable at 2.5GHz. With this DTR, I can run 10x250 and get into Windows, run Aquamark 3, and surf without problems. As soon as I fire up Prime95 or SuperPi, it errors out within seconds. On a brighter note, I love the A64's so much that I'm going to keep the DTR 3200+ and my 3000+ and use one of them to replace the guts of my P4 rig. I'll just have to wait until I get my hands on the DFI board to see which chip goes in the main rig and which one goes in the backup rig. :D
