I'm selling the chip b/c my ASRock only gives 1.55v and you need 1.6v+ to really push the chip. I haven't actually tried the MSI, it's just sitting in a box next to me :)

Here is a pic of what I am running at now, if anyone is interested. Changing from T2 to T1 required me to up my vcore but it is a nice performance boost.

Does the Chaintech VNF3-250 allow clocks upto 300Mhz? That is probably what I will need to really see what this chip can do.

I think i am going to try the msi, as it appears that the 1.2 bios should fix most of the problems, and i dont realy want to wait for the asus, especialy when i dont know that it wont have the same problems the mis does (or different ones that are just as bad)

Has anyone seen what can be done with the EPOX 8kda3+ and one of these mobile CPUs? Based only what I've been reading about the boards, I think the Epox beats out the MSI in my mind, but if it doesn't play nicely with these DTRs then that will definitely redefine the decision making process won't it?

My current thought is to get a DTR3200+, 8kda3+, and run a single 512mb module of Kingston HyperX pc4000...

Just a thought redgarding the sticky back plates on the K8N neo -- has anyone one tried warming things up a bit with a hair dryer? Often works well with stuck on heatsinks...

Cheers.

Thermalright said to use a little acetone to loosen the glue and it should come right off.

got the msi set up, having a problem though. I can get to 200 * 10 (dtr 3200) with clockgen, but it always boots at 800mhz and if i change the multiplier in the bios to 10, then i just get a blank screen on boot, no beeping, but no video. Any suggestions?

havent tried 5,6,7... as each time i try i have to reset the bios, which means i have to pull one of the ram sticks (need to have the newer one in set it to 166, then put the old one in), realy hope the 1.2 bios fixes it, may just install the beta of it today

jkresh I have a 1.4 2800 mobile version and I had a similar problem. I could only boot up at 4*200 so I would have an increadibly fast 800Mhz system :). I used clockgen to fix it. the highest I could go on my cpu for the voltage was 1.45 so I did set it up to 1.45 and save it and I had to close clocgen since I could not do the voltage and the multiplier consecutively or the computer would freeze :(. Then I opened clockgen and changed the multiplier to 8 (the max). Then I rebooted the machine and went into the bios and bingo I was at 8*200 or 1600 :) I had to chnage the htt from 200 to 250 on the bios itself since clockgen and the msi utility would freeze the computer. Also, I had to set the voltage for the cpu in the bios to 1.55. I forgot to do it once and when I allplied the voltage chnge the msi utility was reading a 2.2 volt into the cpu :Q I thought it was a mistake and went ahead and played some ut2k3 and lol and behold the computer froze in like 3 minutes after playing. The only thing that saved me from burning the cpu I think is that I am using water cooling :). So everything was good :). Also, after I flashed the bios to the 1.2 beta the mobile would not post at all. I had to use a regular one to flash it back to the original and then the mobile worked fine again :). Hope this works for u too :)

Hehehhehe, not really this is what makes computer stuff fun (at least for me). I am currently at 260*8 completely stable and the temp is only 33c :) just inching my way up intil I hit the magic 300*8 :) However, the motherboard would not boot at all if I set the memory to 133 :( I switched from the Chaintec board to this MSI and it is a good board. I was going to try the Epox but I will settel with this board for a couple of months until AMD releases the new CPUs and then I will change both.

after setting the voltage in the bios to 1.55 clockgen just crashes the computer if i try to change the multiplier, but if it is at defualt voltage in the bios, i can use clockgen to get to 1.5 amd multiplier of 10

Hehhehehe, seems they area little diferent cpus :) It took me a while tomakeit work but it di work for me. Like I said if I did not set the voltage to 1.55 the mobo would give the cpu 2.2 volts :Q Fortunately I did not fry the cpu :)

so which mobo is the best for just using a mobile a64 chip out of the box? i am thinking abou tthe asus k8v se deluxe? i am not really looking into lots of overclocking - maybe later on - but i am more looking into the chips really low wattage which means really low heat? would asus be fine?

I've read once where a Mobile 2800 worked fine on an Asus K8V. I've done so much reading on the mobiles I really can't remember where but its the only one I've ever read that worked correctly without anything to set in the bios.

Does anyone have any info on how much extra cooling you get without the IHS with everything else (voltage, fsb, multi, HSF) being constant?

Well I hit a wall at 265-270 htt :( I guess it would be a good idea to mention that on the MSI boards. I was lucky since a lot of people have had problems going over 230. I doubt a new bios would allow me to go to the 300 mark :( Also, after playing with the mobo and the settings some more. I fugured out why it would not work with the 133 ram seting. The pci and agp lock sometimes do not work and that is why I was getting no video. Also the memory divider did not work all the time. I cleared the CMOS and changed the memory to 133 and it worked. So I went into windows and the ran CPU-Z and the memory was still runing at 200 so when I would go for the crazy speeds the memory would not take it. Rebooting the computer a couple of times did the trick but I hit a wall at 280 :(

That's a shame. It also probably explains why the Chaintech I was using allows 260 HTT sometimes but not others. Seems these nForce3 250 boards are slow to come out because they're having problems with the locks and/or RAM divisors being stable all the time.

By the way I might be so lucky because I do not use any of the EIDE or SATA stuff. I use scsi so I disable everythingon the bios :)

Guys,
I also got burned with all the quirks of MSI K8N.
The last straw is that 1.25 beta BIOS doesn't work with mobiles.
So it is going back for sure.
The best board for me (I tried Asus K8V, Gigabytes K8N and K8NS, Chaintech VNF3 and finally MSI K8N Neo) is VNF3-250.
It does 280 (memory 1:1 - didn't try higher since didn't want to run at 5:6 mem) - just set AGP to 67.
The only problem is that it doesn't run mobile out of the box so need to have Fry's nearby or get another desktop CPU somehow to flash it to 05/07 beta BIOS.
The second small problem is that beta BIOS doesn't like my OCZ PC4400 512M when I put 2 of then in there (mem doesn't work at 1:1 divider)
So beta BIOS definitely has some problems with 2 sticks of double sided memory (how old production one doesn't have this problem but again it doesn't work with mobiles).
