Thanks, I'll update.

Can anyone else confirm the voltage issues with the 1.4v mobile and the MSI K8N Neo?

I got it from OCUK. There is a thread under motherboards called the definitive K8N Neo Plat Thread. It's completely different and it seemed to give me more FSB but still won't let me use mobile with correct voltage. I have figured out a workaround but it kinda sucks. I can use Crystalcpuid to change the vcore and multi at boot but it limits me to 1.45 volts which doesn't do much for overclocking.

With the mobile chip infinity, yet you can only get 1.45 using crystal or clockgen. after that use the MSI overclock utility that comes with it and you can give it more volts on top of that with Percentages %%.

Install the MSI utility off the cd. it will let you add from 5% to 15% over clock gen. which is 1.68 max on my board. without using it I can only get 1.45 on the mobiles.

Using a newcastle chip on the board i can set the full 1.85, but it undervolts a bit.

If you want i will take screen shots of the bios and a mobile chip with the volts set. IF you read my links and posts and follow how i said it will work and you can set it all you want in the bios.

But the first time you have to clock it to the max using clockgen, and the MSI windows overclocking utility.

OMFG This chip rocks! Somehow its using the correct voltage (actually .06 below what its set at) but I am currently running at 245x10, memory is at 205 2-2-2-6. Have run prime95 for 30 mins and one run of 3dmark2k1 for 21800 pts. I think i will hold off there until I get my watercooling installed because load is at 62C now.

I'm having the same problem with my mobo. It won't let me set voltage higher than 1.45 even though there are settings for vcore up to 1.55v selectable?!?

Here's the deal for me. When I set it for 1.55 in Crystalcpuid it actually enables the voltage I set in the bios (minus -.06 reported). So when I have 1.81 selected in bios, setting it in windows will give me 1.75-1.76 actual. Sometimes it boots up with the correct voltage, sometimes it reverts back to 1.0x. I'm baffled. Regardless I'm getting some really nice benches. Cant wait to get my cascade strapped on.

another happy customer. Like i said. i set it 1.55 with Clockgen, then i can use the MSI "core" overclocking utility in windows and it will set another 18% voltage. Try it.

My voltages are working fine as long as i dont clear the cmos, I've been switching back between chips all day.

Check my results @ overclockers or xtreme

Guys,
I got MSI K8N Neo board today to try it with my mobile A64.
But I cannot remove the backplate from it to use SLK948.
Since I don't know any other heatsink (and this thread doesn't recommend any other heatsink as well) - it looks like MSI K8N Neo is no go with mobile on air.
Guys - how did you mount heatsink on this board for mobile A64?
Bar81 - maybe your first post needs to be updated for this board?

Just unscrew the top portion from the backplate and stick your finger between the backplate and the board and pull on the backplate.

The backplate is glued to motherboard with some sticky tape. It holds pretty good - the surface area is quite big.
Have you tried to remove it yourself?
Or maybe your's without this tape?

Well finally with some tools (pliers) I was able to take it of.
It took me another 20 minutes.
Motherboards appears intact.

Good to hear, maybe freeze the mobo like with graphics cards to more easily remove the backplate?

hmm so this isn't like a P4 where the HS backplate unscrews and takes all of 15 seconds to do? :( oh well. I'm still probably going for K8N neo + mobile A64

Well - on other A64 motherboards like chaintech and gigabyte it takes 15 seconds as well.
But I guess some genius at MSI thought that it is a brilliant idea to glue backplate in ADDITION to screwing it.
Manual actually assumes that backplate comes separately and instructs you to glue it to mobo with sticky tape.

They've been using double sided sticky tape for quite a while, both my ECS 755-A and Asus K8V Deluxe came that way and they were not hard to remove, just need a little strength. Either the MSI tape is extremely strong or some people need to hit the gym :p

MSI K8N Neo support is now in question. I've heard some reports of cpu voltage and stability issues. Until a new BIOS is out fixing the problems, I would caution users looking into buying the board for use with the Athlon 64 Mobile.

ok, put in an order yesterday for teh k8neo, dtr 3200, slk948..., should I cancel and wait for the asus, I realy would prefer not too as my desktop is dead, and i dont like using the notebook this much (plust it isint powerful enough for me to work on). Asus isnt going to be out for 10 days according to zipzoomfly, any suggestions?

Depends on your patience. I have a MSI K8N that's going back on Monday. Some people like it but there are quirks with the voltage - some claim they can get it to stick and some don't. I really don't know what to believe but I don't feel like paying $30 to find out. btw, if I would have known you were buying right now; I'm selling a DTR 3200+ so if you decide to hold off on the MSI lmk and you can save some $ on the cpu

I guess I will have to think about it. As an aside why are you selling the dtr? Also have you tried the 1.25beta bios from msi (you can get it on there forum)?
