My mission is to reach 2.4Ghz+

Here is the rig im thinking of getting:

ABIT TH7-II RAID
Intel Pentium IV 1.8Ghz Northwood Retail Box (with Retail Heatsink)
256Mb (2x128) Samsung PC800 RAMBUS
Sparkle FSP400-60PFN 400W ATX Power Supply - AMD Approved (CA-001-SP)

With this in mind, would you change any of the above items or which ones would you get instead?

Thanks in advance!

Looks good Mr. Phelps. If you are caught, captured or killed we will disavow any knowledge of you (from an old TV show).

hehehehee GrumpyMan

this rig will probably self destruct in 5 seconds of putting it together!

just wanted to know anyone's thoughts on the components or if they had other suggestions of their own?

If you really want to push it as high above 2.4 as the chip will go, I'd definately recommend a DDR P4 motherboard (P4B333 or P4B266).

aks93, you might want to consider getting a P4T-E instead of the TH7-II. With a 133MHz FSB (assuming you can get to 2400MHz) you can get the RDRAM running at 1066, and the majority of TH7-IIs (excluding mine) can't handle the RDRAM running at that speed. Either way it's a gamble as not all P4T-Es have the high speed DRCGs, but with the P4T-E you have better odds.
By the way, if you're going for 1066 make sure you're getting double sided RIMMs; they seem to overclock better.

Good luck with your mission, with a Northy 1.8 it seems quite possible.

I might also add in a Black evercase from NEwegg. W/o ps. Yeah I like that case.

I am running stable with a 1.8a @ 2.45ghz (136fsb) @ 1.7v on a p4s333 w/ pc2700 kingmax ram....I am using a $19 avc hsf and temps are 37c idle and 47c full....

I also got chip to run on i845d MSI ultra ddr board at 2.4ghz (133fsb) with 1.65v but had reboot issues and temps were a lot higher, and memory scores sucked since I was locked into a 1:1 ratio at that speed...maybe incorrect readings or I was using just the retail hsf...temps 46c idle and 62c load...

The 2.4ghz plateau is tougher to achieve then even I thought as many even with similar specs fail to hit it...

I'm currently running my new P4 1.8a @ 2519mhz totally stable with 1.625v using the stock retail cooler on an ASUS P4B266-C. I can run 2610mhz on full cpu load for alittle while before it reboots itself. Not sure exactly what's causing the instability at the higher fsb, but I'm assuming it's my generic Pc2100 ( not made for 140-145fsb) or the Enermax 365w I'm using.

This chip will run totally stable at default voltage outta the box at 2400mhz! I've booted and ran windows with it at 1.70v at just under 2700mhz......incredible combo.

I've got an Alpha P4 hsf on its way along with a thermaltake Dragon orb P4 on the way...gonna do a comparison ont he website. I've also got a nice juicy 512MB stick of Corsair XMS PC2400 Cas-2 memory on the way =)

Although I'll be pushing this setup much more, I'm totally satisfied with it already......I'll just push it "cuz I can" =) once I take care of the memory and cooling, i'll see what that gives me up to 1.70v...I may wire trick it....great thing is, there's lots of options...heh

Anywho, there's my two cents. I don't get enough time to browse the forums much with VH now.......but If you've got any questions about the hardware I'm using, or any tips for me.......Feel free to shoot me an email.

The reboot sound like related to heat, so the new hsf will help you there....

I am wondering how you test (stress) your cpu....1.625v at that speed is awesome...one of the better I have seen....

I could boot at 133 or 2400 with 1.55v, but it wasn't stable enough to last 3 minutes in prime95...though it would boot windows run benches and apps....that is why I ask!!! I thought it was stable until I ran prime95. very few things will run your cpu like prime95...Then let it run 12-24 hours...
