THE MISSING DOLLAR!

3 MEN GO INTO A MOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS $30, SO
EACH MAN PAID $10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM.A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK
REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY $25, SO HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM
WITH $5. ON THE WAY THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT $5 EVENLY
BETWEEN 3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A $1 AND KEPT THE OTHER $2 FOR HIMSELF.
THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM,WHICH IS A TOTAL OF $27,
ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29.
WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR?

Sorry for the caps...it was a copy/paste :p

(30-25)-3-2=0

EDIT: I'll explain...

$30 to start with, then, OOPS, the room is only 25, so keep the 25. Now there is 5 left, give each man one dollar so take off another 3, then with the two remaining, let the bell boy keep it.

or look at it this way...

The guys paid 30, but each got 1 back so it's 27, then 2 to the bell hop for taking the guys $3=$25=the cost of the room.

:)

John, I have a couple:

If you give someone your two cents and they only give you a penny for your thoughts, they are making a penny, Bastards!!

Also, how does the company that changes your dollar for four quarters at the Car Wash make any money?????

Man the forums are lagggggggggged :(

zippy, I don't follow your way of thinking.

origianl room price = 30
mistake = - 5.00
1.00 to each guy = 3.00
Bellboy = 2.00

each guy gave 10.00 and got 1.00 back = 9.00ea x 3 = 27
Bellboy's cut = 2.00

total 29.00

¿¿ what am I missing ??

I already posted this.... and it's answer.
It's a perspective question.

From the men's POV they paid $9 each.

However... from the Outside POV..

They Paid $10 each. 10*3=30

The man refunded $5 30 - 5 = 25

The bellboy gave the men back $1 each, and kept $2. $1 *3 = $3 + $2 = 5

$25 + 5 = $30.

There is no missing dollar.

3 Men have $3 total ($1 apeice)
Bellboy has $2
Manager has $25

3+2+25=30

I understand how 30-5=25

I don't understand how 30/3=10each
1.00 refund to each guy 9.00ea x3=27
bellboy keeps 2.00
total 29

It's phrased in such a tricky way... The key is that you subtract the $2.00 from the $27--not add it. The men each paid $9. ($27 total). The bellboy has $2 in his pocket (27-2=25). The rest of the money ($25) is in the cash register.
