...okay, 'tragedy' is kind of being used a little loosely...

Anybody ever hear certain pop-culture references all the damned time, and never stop to think 'I have no idea what the fuck that means'? I knew who Milli Vanilli was but never understood their association with epic failiure.

Thanks Youtube, now I know.

At five minutes one of the actual dudes does the song, and he sounds better than the one that was recorded for their record. Lulz.

But more importantly, what's really baffling me:

1) Did anyone from the same late 80's/early 90's era actually not lipsync?

2) How damn dumb do you have to be for it to not be painfully obvious that these dudes (and others) were doing it? It is so utterly not-convincing-whatsoever. Was 'Milli Vanilli lip-syncs' actually headline news? If so, maybe our news has not gone downhill as much as I thought...there's just a lot more news, thus a lot more newsfail.

This has been your blast from the past for today. You're welcome.

I don't know the answers to the questions as I was in pre-k at the time, but my parents actually had "Girl You Know It's True" on cassette tape. It's actually not a bad album, despite the lip-synching scandal.

The Milli Vanilli "tragedy" pales in comparison to the tragedy that started in June 2012. So much wasted bits and bytes to the AnandTech forum servers.

the issue with milli vanilli wasn't lip-syncing (which is almost mandatory in music videos, concerts where the singer is dancing, and high-value appearances like the superbowl), it's that the 2 singers being marketed weren't the 2 singers recorded on the album.

for what it's worth, modern music is so heavily processed that it might as well be a different person singing from who is marketed.

girl you know it's true, ooo ooo oooooo, i love youuuuu
