Can't our Navy take on like every other Navy in the world combined or something insane like that? Not sure if we need quite that much to keep the strait open from the craptastic Iranian navy.

yeah what was the story behind the killing of the particle accelerator in texas?

I remember listening to some stupid 60 minutes show where the reporter grilled a project manager about hosting a celebration party for workers for the completion of a section, saying it was a waste of taxpayer money.

Fair enough. It just seems like the overall size of the US military is why it's so insanely expensive. Look at the example of aircraft carriers. All of Europe (which is comparable to the US by population) has only 6. The numbers are like that for everything imaginable. Tanks, helicopters, missiles, etc. USA does need a strong and expensive military, but it's a bit over the top right now.[/QUOTE]

USA needs and will need an extremely strong military for when it eventually has a conflict with Red China. Might not happen this decade, or even the next. its just a matter of when, not if. The Navy escpecially needs the best of the best. it is the best in thw world right now without a doubt, it will need to be the best 20 years from now.

"Red China" does not intend to fight a conventional war with us. They are currently winning the unconventional war that we are engaged in and imo they have indeed already won that war without firing a single shot.

We could build a dozen more CBGs and it wouldn't matter. Ain't that a bitch?

It is politically easy to cut funding for the "small" stuff like that and NASA even though they are absurdly small line items in our budget. Didn't NASA get cut another 20% or something this year? Thats like a rounding error to our budget but the politicians get to pound their chests for cutting a few billion out of 1,400 billion deficit and our dumb asses buy it.
