As I wrote in the other thread, who would buy a Surface instead of the Vivo RT (Transformer)?

Price w/keyboard = same.
Freestanding, Surface is bulkier.
In netbook mode, Vivo destroys Surface on battery life.

This seems a no-brainer.

Because the Surface with Touch Cover weighs less than a Vivo RT with keyboard dock, and some people only need 8 hours of battery life instead of 13 hrs. And the true advantage is that the Touch Cover is light enough that you'd never want to be without it (which makes having the keyboard doubly useful).

Actually batterylife should be closer to 10 hrs (the surface has a 31.5 whr battery compared to 25 in vivo rt sans dock and 47 with dock)

Surface to me is still the win8 launch hardware to get.... of course we will know for sure when the reviews hit if the hardware/design is as good as the hype.

hmmm... reviews... gotta see how that gimmicky keyboard works... I hope it gets really really bad reviews. That'll teach Microsoft for coming out with over priced products!

Magnesium, I'm a sucker for magnesium cases from the NeXTcube, to an old Fujitsu ultraportable I still have.

well now that the reviews are out... looks like 2 ends of the spectrum, one is not enough, the other is best alternative to the ipad!

Personally that's one of the things I like most about it too. I am constantly underwhelmed by aluminum in devices, I actually think it's a really unpleasant feeling in-hand; well, depending on the texture of it at least.

My only problem with the Surface and other RT tablets, the screen rez is only 768p. The 1080p and retina display make a huge difference.

Look, all I care about is if my HD porn will look good on the screen. Yes? My Asus Transformer's screen is ok... I just want something a little clearer to fap to on the go.

I ordered a Surface RT, but honestly, anyone on this forum that really cares about that kind of stuff (which is pretty much everyone) should get a Surface Pro.

The resolution actually never bothered me. I don't have any first hand experience with how Android/iOS/W8 handle scaling, but it's always been pretty spotty on the desktop side of things at least; and while I do kind of like Apple's approach of "same screen real estate, more DPI", any tablet is already going to be a huge DPI jump versus what I (personally) am already accustomed to seeing as it is.

I got one from work today. pretty slick integration of office (specifically outlook).
got the lower end keyboard....it's OK, not great but super slim

Doesn't feel like a game changer by any means (it's not like I couldn't put it down)
My boss can't stop raving about it and Win8....guess I haven't caught the bug yet
