Hi, what sort of speeds are we talking about when the Palomino is released, 1.5Ghz? Also, what sort of speeds will be out by Christmas. I looked at the roadmap, and couldn't find any reference to the power of the CPU's.

I could be totally wrong but I remember reading an article long, long time ago saying that desktop Athlon4 will debut at clock speeds of 1.2GHz

When released for the desktop, i suspect it will be around 1.5 and/or 1.533GHz and various other lower speeds (1.2GHz+). By Christmas, AMD stated they would be around 1.7GHz or so. hope it helps...

For the desktop "home" version it'll probably debut at 1.4Ghz, with a 1.53Ghz (11.5 x 133) version shortly after. The 1.4Ghz AthlonMP is due at the beginning of August.

I really hope they release a 1.6 instead of a 1.5 as their beginning chip. Isn't Intel suppossed to release Northwood at the time of the Palamino?

So if that is the Northwood, then I think AMD is gonna have to have it at 1.6 or up in order to keep competition like it has been. A 500 mhz gap is way too much

It isn't laptop only...the 1.0 and 1.2 for DESKTOPS is out. They make dual 1.2 machines now in spots....the price of the chip is higher but I do like that it's supposed to run cooler (man 1.4 tbird must be hot)!

Mine IDLES at 50ºC, and that's with a lot of decent cooling (Taisol CGK760092 HS/F, 4 case fans). At full load I see temps around 60ºC. :Q

AthlonMP is Palomino. It is based on the Palomino core. Right now you can find 1.0GHz and 1.2GHz (stock) parts, and a 1.4GHz part will be available soon. I expect we'll see the initial Athlon-4 Desktop release at 1.53GHz with a 1.6GHz part to follow by Christmas. I'm running one at ~1500 now and I'm incredibly pleased with the Palomino core performance.

My 1400 w/copper Taisol runs at:

44C Idle
49C Load

Baring in mind, Gigabyte boards have the thermistor touching the bottom of the core giving a higher reading than the majority of motherbaords (6-7c higher?)

I have the Gigabyte 7DXR board as well. And I just moved my computer to a much cooler room (in the basement), and now it idles around 47ºC.

Back on subject, it looks as though the 1.4Ghz AthlonMP has been delayed, and the 1.53Ghz Athlon won't come out until at least September.

<< We also have inside information about the Thunderbird 1.53GHz and the Athlon MP 1.4GHz parts. These will certainly not now be introduced before September. Athlons at speed revs below 1GHz will be phased out from Monday next. >>
