The Matrix will be a IMAX experience

Earlier Wednesday, Imax and Warner Bros., a division of AOL Time Warner Inc. (NYSE:AOL - News) , announced that the second and third chapters of "The Matrix" trilogy, to be released in the spring and fall, will be digitally-remastered using Imax DMR - a technology that upgrades live-action 35mm films into the Imax experience.

The first IMAX worth going to, imo. I don't want to see The Animal Kingdom: Part IV. I wanna see guns... lots of guns...

Even better!!

"The Matrix" films won't have to be shortened, as Imax reel units can now support film lengths of 150 minutes

Everest in IMAX was breathtaking.

I think it's safe to say the Matrix will break all box office records for an opening weekend.

Which will then be broken again by Retrun of the King (I hope).

Which again will be broken by the final Matrix movie.

😀

We have an OmniMax theater here in Pittsburgh.. Isn't that the same as an Imax?

Please Jeebus...let them get this movie there.

OmniMax is a variant of IMAX.

IMAX's twin, OMNIMAX, uses the standard IMAX projector but with the picture projected on to the inside of a planetarium dome. The projector is mounted in the middle of the seating area, and a 180 degree 'Fish eye' lens projects an image beyond the field of vision.

Unlike the Imax DMR releases last year of "Apollo 13" and "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones," "The Matrix" films won't have to be shortened, as Imax reel units can now support film lengths of 150 minutes.
good stuff

I dunno if this is the same thing (DMR) but I managed to see Lord of the Rings and Spider Man on the IMAX screen in Toronto. Nothing like it.

I kick myself for not seeing Star Wars Ep 2 at the Omnimax. I just couldn't bring myself to see the movie for like the 4th or 5th time...the coolness of the movie wore off after 3 viewings.

No word on if they will bring this movie or the Imax version of that "Ghosts of the Deep" flick about the Titanic. They do have the movie in other normal theaters, but nothing on the Omnimax schedule other than 30 min videos about the coral reef. :disgust:

I saw it, and IMO you really didn't miss much. Omnimax (for those that haven't heard of it) is a huge, domed screen that gives a nearly 180 degree (horizontal) picture (it's supposed to fill almost all of your field of vision). It's cool as hell for the National Geographic-style movies they usually have, with long-distance views and smooth motion. It didn't really work for Star Wars, though.

The screen is so close that I had to keep turning my head back and forth to follow the action, and in all of the closer scenes the characters filled most of the screen from top to bottom. We were sitting right in the middle, and I if I looked straight ahead (where most of the action is in the normal Omnimax movies) I was staring at their shoulders. The video was a little "washed-out" looking, like it wasn't quite bright enough, and the motion felt a little choppy. The sound was cool as hell though, far better than in either of the theaters I saw it in.

It was worth $10 bucks just to see it, but next time I think I'm going to save my money.
