Of course, all real MMO's require a monthly fee. Heck there are successful text MMOs that still have monthly fees.

Beta testing has ended and the pre-launch celebration is today in Seattle. Someone accidentally sent me the itenerary of someone else, got me all excited, thought I was going :(

Pre-order access begins Saturday, official launch is the 22nd. This is going to be awesome!

Fileplanet had a beta of it a couple months back. It was completely unplayable on my PC, which is still a very capable machine. A friend got it working on his machine but thought it sucked.

Just the idea of a Matrix MMO reeks of stupid to me.

Why is that? If anything, it's the most appropriate theme yet. The whole point is to continue the story. It's the most story-driven game I've ever seen and I think it's going to be a huge success.

looks like it has potential.

I probably won't buy it, since I'm pretty into WoW right now, but I'll at least read some reviews and consider it.

Malak, to be honest you sound kind of like a fanboy for MXO. I've been playing it since the first round of beta invitations were available, and yet out of it, EQ, EQ2, CoH, DAOC, and WOW, the game I keep going back to time and time again is World of Warcraft. There always seems to be something fun to do. WOW's only problems are latency issues and uptime issues. Everything else seems to be rock solid. The classes are well-balanced, PVP is entertaining, there's enough endgame content available right now to keep most of the ubers pretty happy.

I haven't been too pleased with MXO at all. It is a game that I will come back to about a year after its release and enjoy it once all the issues of bugs, stability, engine performance, and so forth are all ironed out.

not really keen on getting it... doesnt really interest me.

and i think alot of other prospective MMORPG players feel the same way, its going to be tough to break into a market dominated by WoW and to a lesser extent EQ2, plus a score of other smaller morpgs

Looks great, but I don't think I can get myself back into something this time consuming

<-- wants short and sweet games like SW: Republic Commando :p

I beta tested the game but quit a few months ago. I love the Matrix movies and Enter The Matrix but I just could not get into MxO. I am really disappointed. My Matrix experience has reached it's end.

Sounds like just another mmo clone, but I haven't played it or know much...I'm just a jaded ex-mmogamer :p ah yes 3 trees...mage, fighter, rouge....or whatever you want to call them. The variety looks interesting, I guess I'll keep an eye on its progress.

I cant imagine them making the matrix world believable, i mean, can you really feel like you're part of the matrix universe in that game? Seems a bit odd to me.

Your right, I am a fanboy. Because the company making it is rock solid, its partners are rock solid, and the game is rock solid. Sure, there are a couple bugs still, but last time I checked, MMOs that came out years ago are still patching their games. I have had one crash in months, no performance issues, and the game is fun.

I played DAoC and alpha'd WoW. I could not stand either of them. In MXO, my goal isn't even to level up. I will admit, this is not your average MMO, and if you have no interest in the Matrix you probably won't enjoy it half as much as I am. But this game is a lot more fun than any other MMO I have ever played, and I've played a LOT.

Within 5 minutes of the servers opening up, every one was at medium capacity. I don't think we'll have an issue of it breaking into the market. Remember, it isn't even live yet.

Trust me, this is not a clone. And it is not mage/fighter/rouge. If you look at my screenshots of the skill tree, there are a massive amount of skills, and you can learn every single one of them. There are no classes. They are branched as Coder, Hacker, and Operative.

YES, in fact I was incredibly surprised when I first played it. It is exactly like being in the Matrix. You can jump across buildings, headbutt agents in bullet-time, and look hawt in leather.

that is so douche though. you are already paying 50 for the game, and you have to pay 15 on top of that each month?

You are paying for the service of playing the game, it is more than worth it. Just think of their monthly cost to pay for:

Management staff(producers, directors)
Writers
Gamemasters
Programmers(still gotta make expansions and patches forever)
Servers and Bandwidth

In MXO, they even have actual people controlling the unique characters of the story, like Morpheus, Niobe, Merv, The Oracle, and more.

$15 a month is pocket change. It costs more to go on a date once a month than to play an MMO, it's nothing. If you can't afford an MMO, you can't afford to game period.

I wish there was an option to pay X dollars for X hours of play... since I might only play 10 hours a month or so. Especially being out on business kills the value of any monthly charge.

Well the more time you pay for in advance, the less it costs per month. Like if you pay for 6 months, you basically get one month free. I don't know how much you save with a year subscription. I was really tempted to get it. I decided to do 3 month since you really never know what could happen in 6 months.

Some of the features to the game make it sound far more intresting/orginal than any other MMO game that I've heard of. I gave the beta a shot and my computer could really handle it well enough for my liking, that and the lag made it more of a chore to learn than an enjoyable game. Now with a new computer I might want to give it another shot but I'm not sure a subscription is goign to fly with me, especially when I enjoy games that are completely free to play to begin with, or are now available for free (such as AA, the Tribes 1&2 games, the Tribes communty replacement for those games (Legends/Renegades)) and a few others I've got my eyes on.

I think the idea of the continuing story is pretty decent, however it makes me wonder how long you'd have to play and how alert you'd have to be to keep up with whats going on. Then there's the fact that I didn't really like where they went with the story in 1 and 2. The ghost and vampire concept was pretty cool, but the virus Smith I didn't really care for as well as some of the unexplainable things that are never clearly resolved in the movies. However the continuing story does give it a chance to redeem some unanswered questions, as well as give fans what they might want as wild as rumors of Neo not being dead or being reborn or something.
