Awesome screencap. :)

I'm assuming most people who get HD movies at this point, capture them from premium HDTV channels (some cable boxes have unrestricted Firewire outputs), since a HD DVD format of any kind does not exist in the market yet, excluding a few obscure WMV-HD releases. I only have a PC HDTV tuner that can receive regular OTA or unencrypted QAM HDTV broadcasts, so there aren't that many new or good movies shown in HD yet that I can capture. :(

Pretty much. I sincerely hope that PC drives are available, because I'll be first in line to buy one. Normal DVD's don't cut it anymore, and look like crap in comparison. :D

all 3 are awesome(the 2nd looked good at least) in HD.

Seen 2-3 on HBOHD and 1 on TNTHD.

720x480 is 3:2. Why are there so many differant widescreen aspect ratios like 16:10 and 3:2? I though all film was 16:9? Would that mean its stretched or cropped when on a non-16:9 display?

You'll have to ask Jello or someone else about that, I don't know why the pixel count doesn't match up with the aspect ratio. It may be non-square pixels or it may have something to do with the "anamorphic" widescreen stuff, I really don't know.

And no, film is usually not 16:9, actually. There are many different ratios used for film/movies...1.85:1, 2.35:1, etc. Usually it's still letterboxed on a 16:9 display (just as 16:9 stuff is ever so slightly letterboxed on my 16:10 monitor).

hmm, screenshot is 720x480, there are letterboxes, and it looks stretched. whats going on here :confused:

It's 1.85:1 so it's more widescreen than the HD version. I captured it with WMP Classic and I noticed the stretching too. It doesn't look like that when you're watching it, but something strange happened when it captured it.

EDIT: should have captured it at 850-ishx480 like it plays it, captured it at 720x480

mmm...makes me want to forego the 7800's and go straight for a 2405fpw and a 6800gt instead
