One of the worst things about going to school in upstate New York is the lack of a good pizza pie (I'm sure I could find one around here if I had a car, but alas I do not). When I'm home in NJ I make sure to get my fill of the real stuff.

i go to RIT and the pizza joints in rochester are lacking some good pies. :(

i just can't wait to go home in NJ and eat some rigorous, fabulous and delicious pies.
How about the lack of good food in general? Seriously, the only thing I enjoyed eating on occasion were the red hots. Rochester is home of the Garbage Plate, fish fries, and wings that aren't as good as Buffalo's

garbage plates are great but it's not like i want to eat very often.

only one of the suburbs of Detroit, many of which are very affluent and very safe.
Correction ... substitute "were" for "are". The downfall of the US auto industry + the housing market decline is killing "metro" Detroit.

As for here in Columbus, Tommy's Pizza rules. If you like pizza cooked the Old World way you will like Tommy's. Very similar to the "other" style of NY pizza, ie. not some slab you fold in two to eat, but rather a med/thin crisp-crusted pie cooked in a wood fired oven.

Since I'm at OSU, Tommy's Pizza is like less than a mile from me. I'll have to check it out sometime.

When I retire I have to tour the United States trying pizza all over the country, just to remind myself that the New York metropolitan area has the best pizza in the world, bar none. I know the US isn't the whole world, but all of the pizza I had in Italy sucked, so who else is going to have better pizza than us? ;)

Glad that people have opinions ;)

Too bad I go to school in Chicago - It's impossible to get good bagels and great pizza [that you can fold] like you can on Long Island.

LOL

I can't stand the thin "pizza" they serve in the midwest. After growing up in New York, it just doesn't seem like real pizza.

I went to college in Indiana for 4 years after growing up in NJ... most of the pizza out there sucked, but there was one place that I really, really liked. I'm actually looking forward to going to my five year reunion this year so I can get some of that pizza. :Q Hopefully they haven't closed.

Where did you go to school mugs? If you are speaking of Polito's pizza in South Bend, then don't worry, its still there.
