I can't stand the thin "pizza" they serve in the midwest. After growing up in New York, it just doesn't seem like real pizza.

When I retire I have to tour the United States trying pizza all over the country, just to remind myself that the New York metropolitan area has the best pizza in the world, bar none. I know the US isn't the whole world, but all of the pizza I had in Italy sucked, so who else is going to have better pizza than us? ;)

I went to college in Indiana for 4 years after growing up in NJ... most of the pizza out there sucked, but there was one place that I really, really liked. I'm actually looking forward to going to my five year reunion this year so I can get some of that pizza. :Q Hopefully they haven't closed.

One of the worst things about going to school in upstate New York is the lack of a good pizza pie (I'm sure I could find one around here if I had a car, but alas I do not). When I'm home in NJ I make sure to get my fill of the real stuff.

NY Style >> Chicago Deep Dish >>>>>>>>> anything else.

Too bad I go to school in Chicago - It's impossible to get good bagels and great pizza [that you can fold] like you can on Long Island.

New Haven does, and it's a relatively short drive :)

I'm impressed that they have "New England Greek" pizza on their list... most people don't recognize it as it's own pizza genre.

LOL at the DC Jumbo Slice! I would never try to eat it when sober, because it's just nasty. Dry, old crust that's been sitting around since noon. Old sauce. Toppings that've dried out under a heatlamp. But hey, sometimes its the only thing available at 4am.

How about the lack of good food in general? Seriously, the only thing I enjoyed eating on occasion were the red hots. Rochester is home of the Garbage Plate, fish fries, and wings that aren't as good as Buffalo's

Pizza Oven in Lockport, NY. BEST PIZZA EVER! They even have a moat, people open up shop simply to go out of business in Lockport. The funnest thing is that at one time, there were 5 pizza shops and they all got cheese from the same place. The delivery person told the owner of Pizza Oven that he gets 5 times as much cheese as all the other pizza joints in town combined.

Although I do like Buddy's, my favorite pizza is no more. Pepina's pizza in Lincoln Park, MI burnt down about 4 years ago and as we were eating pizza tonight I was saying to the wife that every time I eat pizza I morn a little for the loss of my favorite pizza place.

It stood there for about 50 years making the best pizza there was. All fresh, home made ingredients, the sauce went all the way to the edge and the crust was dry on the bottom because they used corn meal to keep it from sticking in the oven.

:brokenheart:

a couple of italian guys, for whatever reason, moved into my little hometown in the eastern part of north carolina something like 20 years ago, serving new york style pizza...and its delicious. best in town, by far. its been a favorite here almost since they opened shop.

theres another italian place that opened last year, i heard the guy is from brooklyn but i dont know why he wound up down here. the pizza is good, but its *exactly* like what I make at home, except the pies are small. i make my own.

Buddys pizza in Detroit>>>ALL

Pizza certainly isn't a good enough reason for me to set foot in Detroit.

Detroit has suburbs... many of them.

NY Style ftw

I'm failing to see why that's a reason to set foot in Detroit. Houston has suburbs and they're awful enough for me to never want to visit another one...

I think what they were getting at was that you wouldn't need to set foot in Detroit to go to Buddy's, only one of the suburbs of Detroit, many of which are very affluent and very safe.
