trying to place matters in perspective . . .
iraq has a population of nearly 25 million people. do these criminals have the real
numbers that equal 250,000 ? hardly.
apart from sadr's forces, the savages in fallujah, and a few other isolated pockets of
concentrated criminal activity, we have a lack of real aggresion and a total absence
of any growing popularity for this type of activity throughout the country.
percentage-wise, we're looking at a tenth of one percent of the total population.
clearly the obvious majority of people do not care to participate in this conduct.
the true majority do care and are quite frustrated with the state of affairs. the
symapthies against americans and for these others is shallow and easily swayable
with hard progress. but this does not - never has - translated into the acquiescence
for lawlessness and the destruction of their country. with the looming transition,
elections, growing infrastructure rebuilding, and trials of major baathist officials
this mood will change.
