There was a thread a while back about something similar to this, but my trip to LA over the weekend has really reinforced this concept in my mind, and I wanted to say something.

It has apparently become widely accepted that the current "style" in LA for little girls is to wear miniskirts (or longer skirts with slits up the sides), heels, makeup, and feathered boas (?!). One certainly cannot blame the kids, because I imagine little girls will certainly like to play "dress up"; but I really have to wonder about parents who walk around with these kids as if it were perfectly normal.

My own sense of personal morality is outraged here, because I fear that these parents just don't understand that children should not be viewed as objects of sexual desire.

I have a 4 year old daughter, and it's not easy to buy a dress for a 4 year old that's not above the knees or tarty looking. It pisses me off.

Wait til she's nine. Any shirt that is actually the right size is short enough to show the belly incredibly easily. So my poor girl gets stuck wearing oversized shirts all the time.

It's not really the children's fault, they're just emulating what they see the adults wearing. To change this you'd have to change the morals of society as a whole and that ain't happening anytime soon

Blame the media ... I mean look at Teen People, Seventeen, Jane, and all those other teenage girl magazines. Look at MTV. Kids always want to grow up and be more adult like, and by seeing this it just makes them think that by wearing things such as that is *cool* and *hot* ... so yep.

Yeah, but it's much, MUCH worse in LA.

Where do you think the rest of the country gets it from? LA has always been the "center of fashion" for the US, so any trend sweeping the nation started there years back, and the current state of LA fashion will always be a good sight scarier than the rest of the country.

Seriously, I travel on business all over the country. LA scares the hell out of me, the people there are FREAKS. So superficial it hurts.

I agree - it's horrible.

Every generation thinks that the next is getting sluttier. I wonder what it's going to be like a few generations from now!

in super conservative boulder colorado, they did that to 3 and 4yr olds and the case was never solved.

on leno some 8 yr old guest talked about how she and her friend play "nicky and paris hilton". what we need is good role models. but there are none. 60% divorce rates are absolutely absurd, more divorces than competent marriages

Plenty of parents have no problem with their 10 year old lookling like a crack head hooker, but I will. A friend's 9 year old mentioned recently that her thighs were fat (besides the point that she has very toned legs for a 9 year old, and no I'm not being sick, I'm just saying she's fit).

Heh, my daughter wears hand-me-downs from her brother most of the time.

Do keep in mind that high divorce rate is BECAUSE of how conservative the country is. In "liberal Europe", the crime rates are lower and the divorce rates are lower. The ratio is pretty straightforward - taking any number of first world countries, the more "godless" the country is, the happier the lives of its citizenry seems to be.

The country has always been quite conservative, and is less so now than it was 50 years ago, except divorce rates are up, so that doesn't really mesh.

This thread is exactly why I will LITERALLY destroy the very fabric of American society before I spawn. If I have to drive the entire planet back into a puritan hell to ensure that my daughters aren't told that slutty == acceptable, I shall.

Chances are your great-grandparents thought your mom dressed like a whore. Things change, life goes on

I think it won't be too bad actually. If things get bad enough now, in a few years, people will have a strong reactionary sentiment towards this kind of stuff.

I blame Paris Hilton, the media & corporations that pander to children:

South Park Episode123

Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset
gs: John Hansen (V) (Voice of Mr. Slave) Paula Holmberg (Voice of Unknown) Jennifer Howell (Voice of Bebe) Jessie Thomas (Voice of Unknown)

At the South Park Mall, Paris Hilton is making an appearance. Wendy wants to know what she does; the answer she receives is that Paris is a stupid, rich, whore. She is there to open her new store, which supports that position, "Stupid Spoiled Whore." Wendy looks for other friends, because her friends are acting all weird with their Paris Hilton stuff, but even her replacement friends decide to make use of the new "Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset." After Paris Hilton's dog shoots itself, Paris spots Butters and decides that she simply must have him. She renames him "Mr. Biggles" and takes him into her limousine. Wendy in the meantime tries to turn to her parents for help, and she has her father on her side for a while, until he falls under the spell of the empowered women at the shopping mall. Butters' parents find out that he is "dating" Paris Hilton and begin seeing dollar signs; they decide to try cashing in. Paris asks them how much for "Mr. Biggles." While his parents debate about whether or not they will sell their son to the heiress, Paris passes out in Butters' bedroom.

Wendy tries to fit in with Bebe and the other whores, but she just doesn't cut it. Bebe and the other whores start to invite various boys to Bebe's house for a party, but Cartman doesn't make the cut. Butters parents come to a decision for $200 million they won't sell their son, but if she gives them $250 million it's a deal. Butters doesn't want to be sold, his father tells him if he can raise the money himself, he can stay. To make money Butters goes out to mine coal, just like his grandfather did; meanwhile his parent's seal the deal with Paris. The party at Bebe's house is rocking and Cartman is trying to crash it. Wendy goes to Mr. Garrison's house to get some help from Mr. Slave. She wants advice on how to become a whore. Mr. Slave recounts the tale of his youth, he was born a whore, and it wasn't something he had to work at. "Mr. Biggles" is about to leave with his new owner, until he sees what fate might be in store for him, Butters gets out of the limousine and runs away.

Wendy and Mr. Slave go to Bebe's party. Mr. Slave tries to talk some sense into the girls. Paris arrives and the pair gets into a discussion that leads to Paris challenging Mr. Slave to a "Whore Off." The competition begins and Paris comes on strong, including the use of a pineapple, but Mr. Slave easily takes the victory by inserting Paris Hilton where the sun never shines. Mr. Slave again appeals to the girls who've learned their lesson. Meanwhile, the Stotch family is out of the money and Paris Hilton, well she's on a Lemmiwinks adventure.

b: 01-Dec-2004 pc: 812 w: Trey Parker d: Trey Parker

# NOTE: This episode featured the Frog Prince, not seen since the Lemmiwinks episode. Kenny barely appears, Kyle doesn't speak, and Stan's only line is "Oh, thank God!"
# Paris drinks S'mores-flavored Schnapps, a drink that first apeared in "The Red Badge of Gayness".

See? I'm on the cutting edge of this reactionary sentiment.
