has anyone watched the first 2 episodes yet?

i gotta say, i enjoyed them and am looking forward to the other episodes at this point.

granted, i don't know all the lotr lore. i've only read the trilogy, not the hobbit or the silmarillion.

so i probably won't know exactly how much it gets wrong.

Not yet .... was just debating if I can stay awake to watch it tonight. (it's not looking good!)

I've avoided all previews and most articles about the show so I have very little opinion going in other then I hope they didn't fvck it up!

The things that annoy me the most, oddly, are

those light trees in place of the sun. And the fire that produces no heat because a place is too evil.

I guess I just have trouble accepting a world with different physics.

Otherwise, it's very, very good so far.

Watched ep.1 last night, ep. 2 tonight.
not the worst thing I've ever seen.

I know a lot of people are bitching about "OMG! They have a black elf! This show is so WOKE!"

Meh...not an issue to me.

Amazon prime video had to turn off reviews as it was getting review bombed by so many trumpy racists just being racist, and saying nothing about the actual show.

This has happened with other shows like the female hulk show.

These shows have like an 84% critics like and the review bombed audience score is in the 30% range. And they look at the reviews and the worst ones are mostly driven by these racist bombers

That's why I stick to reading 3 and 4 star reviews almost exclusively.... "review-bombers" don't use those so much!

Crap like this nonsense is why we can't have nice things!

I think I'll wait until most of it is out. The Silmarillian was my favorite of all the Tolkien books (to be fair, I thought the rest are actually just garbage, but I say this too much, lol), so I'm excited to watch.

I did like the LOTR films, though. ....granted, I rewatched them some time earlier this year, and I didn't like them as much as before. I dunno...they felt kinda "plain" or "light" more than I remembered. I think maybe GoT has wrecked our expectations of this kind of nations-at-war fantasy content.

I like it so far. Even the husband is watching it and LOTR puts him to sleep.

"3 hours of walking somewhere" was what I got out of the 1st movie in the theater. I was so angry that I was dragged to see that crap. :D

It was OK IMO, but not great. Too many characters IMO, the stakes are still not really known, and the insistence on putting Galadriel in danger every other scene is pretty dumb - as we already know she survives.

A lot of stuff seems to be changed from the lore for no reason, but it's just how things are done these days I guess (e.g. WOT). It doesn't really bother me, but I just don't get why.

I liked it! The colors were AMAZING! I don't have an HDR TV but it looked like I had an HDR TV in some of those scenes!

Like She-Hulk, I wish I had waited for the full season to drop, I love binging & hate waiting lol

i went 5 times to watch the first movie in the theater!

then 6 times for the 2nd one, and 5 times for the 3rd one.

i don't think i've done that for any other movies before, but it was worth it for LOTR

going to watch those with my buddies in between our fall and spring semesters of college felt so great

Jackson's LOTR was as good as it gets from Hollywood for that type of blockbuster. The main annoyance was the dragging out of frodo and Sam destroying the ring storyline. That should have been edited

We already know you have severe brain damage...you don't need to keep proving it to us.

I thought the first 2 episodes were just okay. The 2nd one was better than the 1st though.

There is something about the show though that just feels "fake". Like it's super obvious that so much of the show is shot in a green room. And then most of the other scenes look so obviously like a set, almost like it's a play or something. Like everything is exaggerated or something. The hobbits are all overly dirty to the point that it just looks fake and overdone. And their "town" also looks too well put together that it looks fake. I felt the same way about the dwarf city and the dwarves.

I dunno if that makes sense or not but that is just how I felt while watching it. It just doesn't have the nitty gritty authentic feel of Game of Thrones, which is fine too since that may be what they are going for. But it's definitely noticeable.

Acting is kinda suspect too. It is super hit or miss. I also had no clue that Elves were amphibians. Also thinking about Lord of the Elden Ring with that tree...

EDIT:

And I'm definitely going to keep watching and finish the season.

Just got done watching the first episodes.... I feel like they could have found a better actress to play Galadriel but overall so far I like it. (especially the dwarves in Moria)

Will hold my final rating until the first season is over. :)

Just watched the two episodes now. I'm pretty impressed. I thought the special effects were great, the production value is indeed insane. The storylines are off to a good start, and they could suck but right now I'm wanting to know more. That may change but can't wait until Thursday for now.

As someone who read hello to your and watch The movies multiple times, I don't feel a dwarves are misrepresented, they were always master engineers.

It's on Friday nights now, Thursday was just the premiere. It wouldn't make much sense to have them going up against their own Thursday Night Football.
