OMG - Just once per state, thank goodness.

Are there professions where you have to keep taking the state exams?

Wow, my gf is currently in her third day fo the Bar. 12 hours is pretty short compared to what she is doing. I know today (the last day) is 6 solid hours of handwritten essays. Texas bar....

Well, becoming a professional engineer requires a couple of exams, so I guess it would be close :p

I also heard Louisiana was hard. It would have to be, since the law there is different from anywhere else in the country.

LOL... I hope you pass. I know a guy that took it three times and didn't pass, he's now a real estate loan officer.

Congrats. I took the FL bar in '05, and was convinced I failed it because of the state multi choice section. Ended up passing by a decent margin though.

I guess this is the first year they've held it in Orlando?

I believe California is the hardest in the US, followed by NY and FL (from what I've heard, don't quote me on that)

don't tell me NY is second.

i finish most of my exams in less than an hour.

What does this mean? That you are so smart you finished the second hardest bar exam in less than an hour? You "finished" or you finish? The latter implying you are just sharing with us that most exams you take in life are finished in under an hour.

AMUSING TO SEE PEOPLE TRY SO HARD TO BECOME A LAWYER ONLY TO SEE THEM LEAVE THE PROFESSION IN FIVE YEARS OR BECOME A MALCONTENT THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.

Try making sure caps lock is off before you post - caps don't exactly make your argument more persuasive

funny aphex, i was just thinking about whether or not you took the bar yet. I believe the bar passage rate for FL is 55% (or at least it was last year) according to world news and reports.

Just curious... do you have to pass the bar exam in each state you want to practice law in?

Some states have repricosity with others. Most do not (like California).

MotionMan

What states do and don't have reciprocity with others?

CA, NY, and DC are the three hardest bar exams.

Louisana, and Nevada are also considered on the harder side due to all the gaming laws and regs.

Florida ranks up there towards the harder end of the spectrum as well.

Thats because most who decide to become lawyers do it not because they want to but because they want to make a lot of money.

Most going in to the legal profession really haven't researched indepth into their career choice.

If you want to make lots of money, go into buisness.
If you want to help people, go into medicine.
If you are passionate about law, and know what you are getting yourself into, go into law.

the three hardest exams: CA, NY, TX. CA because anyone can sit for the bar, NY because a lot of foreigners sit for the bar, and TX because it's fscking hard. FL is quickly catching up because there are so many low-rent law schools popping up there.
