If you;re like me, you've been hearing rumors ona nd off for ten years about a new supoerman movie, Nick Cage as superman, Tim Burton directing, Jimmy Olson is gay, etc.

Well, here is the whole dang story that spans about 10 years of.....whatever you want to call it,

Note: This is LONG and i am too lazy to make cliffs (hell, the cliffs would be much longer than your typical atot yagt)

Cliffs:
1. Tim Burton "reimagines" Superman into Alien/Matrix/Shaolin movie.
2. WB descends into civilwar.
3. Casting and directors change several times. Nicholas Cage (originally supposed to be Superman) says the "reimaging" isn't true to the comic book and turns the role down.
4. A new director is found who decides to change the whole outline again.
5. Repeat 1-4 five times.
6. Done!

Why bother? The whole genre of comic book "Superheroes" has been played out for the past 15+ years. It died w/ the original Batman.

They'll dig up anything that has been drawn in a comic to make a movie now, and they all suck. Now they're reverting to video games & lame TV animation for movie fodder.

But since the movie industry has been on a rehash campaign for the last decade, I don' t forsee anything interesting coming soon.

On a side note, I received a gift card for AMC theaters for x-mas, I laughed & tossed it aside. My sister works for Harkins & I can see a free movie anytime I want...I haven't been to a theater in over a year.

I thought the movie was going to come out this year? I remember seeing a poster in a movie theatre last month.

what it comes down to is that hollywood is more about driving their agenda than telling stories as they are. If you think this superman is bad you should have seen what was happening with Lost in Space. Some of the earlier drafts had penny as a lesbian and the whole family dysfunctional. There was even a Brady Bunch remake with characters that were gay, had drinking or drug problems.

They stopped telling stories and instead preach to us.

and they wonder why some movies fail miserably...

hell look at Brokeback mountain. The amount of advertising almost exceeds the cost to make the film with quotes of "smash hit" and such. Smash hits have more than $33m in sales. Its all about agenda now.

IIRC the new Superman topped over $320m to make, putting it in the #1 slot.
However, I'm too lazy to look it up.

I know that Hollywood cant possibly ever make enough money, but Superman was already done in one series of movies and done very well.

Cant we just stop the insanity and enjoy the legacy while its still pleasant?

I disagree. The movies may not be good but they will continue to come out and eventually they will become better at it. I would hope, at least, at some point they would become better at it. Batman Begins was an amazing movie though so apparently it's not dead yet.

Besides, if I was going to write down amazing comic book heroes, I wouldn't even include superman or batman. But that's a whole different discussion, there are so many comic books that havn't even been touched.

Not only Batman Begins, but Spider-Man 1 & 2 along with X-Men 2 were very well reviewed in the last few years. I'm not a whore to critic's opinions, but I thoroughly enjoyed them as did most of the people I know who saw them, fans and non-fans of the comics included.

No genre is ever without it's stinkers, so of course we get Catwoman and Elektra.

The whole "Superheroes have been played out for 15 years" doesn't jive with my memory. Before the first X-Men was a hit in August of 2000, what other superhero movies were there in the 90's besides the abysmal first run of Batman movies? Most comic book fans, myself included, were clamoring for more of them for an entire decade but no one would touch the licenses after the last 3 Batmans (Returns/Forever/& Robin) turned the franchise and genre to unmarketable crap.

"And this is where things got REALLY ugly. First off, Smith was taken aback when Peters asked him, in all sincerity, "?Kal-El?? Who?s this ?Kal-El? guy you keep mentioning in the script?"

LOL!

If they "reinvent" Superman in the next movie... well I guess I will have to miss that movie too.

Think it's gonna be Kevin Spacey.

It's definitely Kevin Spacey. I've seen quite a few on-set photos with him as Lex Luthor (bald head and all).

I grew up reading Superman comics, watching the old B/W Superman series on TV, and I love comic book based movies; but unless this movie gets rave reviews (seems unlikely), I won't be seeing it.
