The loneliest place on Earth.

Just think of the overclock you could get there! The US Flag in picture 7 needs to be replaced; it's very tattered.

BTW: The article itself was VERY interesting! Nice find, OP.

While I think going to Antarctica would be a cool thing to do...(literally) it looks far too dammed cold to me. Anything below about 50F is pushing the limit of human tolerance...😀

Why didn't they run the exhust of the server room through a heat exchanger before venting? That should save some energy cost. On second thought, just circulate the base's air through the server room, forced air heating 🙂

One of the guys I work with here did 18 months in Antarctica. He said the 24/7 dark days were by far the worst. Also he said during the 24/7 sun time of year, they had this glass box that they would set out in the sun, and it would get up to about 170F inside, despite being sitting in the snow/ice. He also got tons of hazard/overtime pay and took 6 months off from work completely afterwards and traveled New Zealand and Australia.

That second pic reminds me of the battle on Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back.

In other news, did you know Antarctica's area code is 672?

lot of air traffic around the south pole that i dont know about?

i don't know how much , but they fly the peoples and supplies from McMurdo Station to the pole and stuff comes in from NZ etc

country code, not area code (as in 10 digit dialing). Satellite phone providers have their own country code as well
