there are quick AIDS tests. I was at a hospital orintation monday. we were discussing if we were stuck with a needle. these was a aids test they coudl do that took about 10minutes. but the accuracy was less than the longer tests.

(this test would be done on the patient not the person who was just stuck)

Right. The person just stuck would have to wait 3 weeks to 6 months before they produced enough antibodies for the test to detect.

So, in short, if you are infected Monday night, you will NOT be able to find out Tuesday.

read up... we've already established its a hoax ;)

Hey, just read this in a brazilian newspaper my mom sent me from last week (she occasionally sends me lil package with pics, newspapers and other cool random stuff) ok so most ppl aren't familar with this living in either US or Canada but some fscked sh1t goes down in 3rd world countries...

For a couple years now there's been random kidnappings on the street and I don't mean like what its like in the states for instance, i mean like in the same city, like dozens of people per day like at traffic lights and stuff.
So the crooks are gettin more creative lately, I'm retyping this short article in portuguese:

"...the last victim was a 15 year old boy. He was walking homw one night when he heard a baby crying inside an empty construction site. As he walked over to see what was going on he was hit on the head with a brick and fainted. He woke up a couple hours later in the trunk of a moving vehicle. The vehicle came to a stop inside a warehouse and a cloth soaked with chloroform was placed over his nose and mouth, making him pass out again. The kidnappers called the boys family and demanded a certain ransom ammount (not revealed). A couple hours later the ammount was paid and the kidnappers drove by his house and threw the gagged and tied up boy out of the moving car onto the sidewalk.
His family found a strange scar on the boys stomach and took him to an all-hours hospital to investigate. Inside the boys stomach they found a laminated piece of paper with the following message scrawled on it: "Your money can save your childs life, but can't spare him from his imminent death." After a barrage of examinations, they found out the boy was infected with HIV. He vaguely remembered sharp stings on his arms, in the exact region where a small needle mark was found.
There have been 12 cases in the past 2 weeks..."

Just sick. I can't even find words to describe the kind of people that would actually do this to someone.
Thought I should share it.

I have a problem with this. It takes a bear minimum of three weeks, and an average of two months to test positive for HIV after infection. NO WAY will he test positive after just a few days or even a week of infection.

That's only one way to test for HIV. There are other ways, that can detect as early as 72 hrs i believe. It's called Polymerase Chain Reaction testing.

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR): A specialized blood test that looks for HIV genetic information. Although expensive and labor-intensive, the test can detect the virus even in someone only recently infected. To further protect the blood supply, the FDA has indicated that the development and implementation of tests for HIV genetic material such as PCR is warranted

Not something they would be doing in a third world country, nor is this even a standard test here in the US. The standard first test is almost always the anti-body test, especially for those with little funds or ability to pay for a massively expensive viral load test.

And the story has the kid being tested within 24 hours. He was taken to a 24 hour med clinic, if you read it again.

but they can find out if the persons who's bloodinfected you has anything in it. so if he has HIV they know to start you on treatment ASAP

THAT was cruel.

Why would that be cruel, I think it would be perfect. Just another excuse not to leave the room.:)

Where in the story did it say they caught the kidnappers, much less tested them?
