The LDS church taught people with brown skin (especially black) were cursed until 2013.

Watch this video of a woman who was steeped in this shit and how she got out. Just a singular example how white supremacy is steeped in the culture of this country

I didn’t just take her word. Confirmed it with other sources.

Actually, I think it goes back much farther. I ( vaguely) remember reading about a kid in the Boy Scouts who was up for Patrol Leader of some such thing. Because their scout troop was sponsored by the local Mormon church, non- whites, especially youse black folk…were prohibited from any kind of leadership role due to that Mormon “belief” that colored people were from Satan and unpure. (had to be a bishop or something similar)
The kid’s dad was in the USAF and was going to file a federal lawsuit. The NAACP got involved…the local United Way was going to pull its support…Suddenly, old Spencer Kimball, the head of the Mormon church “had a dream” in which God told him that the old way was wrong…that youse colored folks were no longer so unpure.(or some such bullshit)

Here’s a bit of the story:

Is some ways this is a super power for the Mormon church because they believe the leader speaks with god the church is able to change its dogma with the times. More flexible than the current crop of prosperity gospel evangelicals. But yes there is a long history of religions with absolutely dog shit tier beliefs.

I didn't learn about the whole change of mind in 1978 until I listened to The Book of Mormon soundtrack. Really is a curious religion they've got there. I remember when I was in basic training and we saw the Mormon's underwear. He did not want to answer questions about it, so we left it alone.

Ah yes...the "magic underwear."

I like that Mormons treat the body as a temple and are religiously bound to keep it healthy.

@BoomerD I never know what to make of the haha thingi I don't use emojis to express my reactions to other people's posts because If I like one's person's post someone else might feel left out and I do not like liking one person over another. Everything easily is seen as some sort of contest. So I am very sparing about my likes and like much I do not comment on.

So I never use a haha to laugh at anybody's ideas. I use it when I am really humorously affected by somebody's sense of humor. And since I see nothing funny about what I said I assume you must be using Haha to laugh at rather than with me. I have no problem with that. I won't personally be paying any price if you are ill mannered and in case that was your intention, what problem do you have with people who take care of their health? If your intention was to laugh at an appreciation for people who take care of themselves perhaps you could say why. I think being able to stand up for a feeling is a sign of self respect with snide implication showing emotional reactions generated in the absence of thought.

I sometimes want to look up what the magic underwear is but I know that I'm going to be left disappointed in it so I've never checked it out. Who doesn't want magic underwear though?!

I "ha-ha'd" because I lived in Northern Utah for 3+ years. While MOST avoid spicy foods, beverages like coffee and coca-cola, (odd how the church used to be a majority owner of Coca-Cola corp) and other things...the rest of your statement, "the body is a temple and they're religiously bound to keep it healthy" is laughable to me.
My impression from living amongst them is that OVERALL, most Mormons try to live what they preach...but I also met the biggest fckn crooks and hypocrites who were bishops or above in the church.
The old joke was...
"Why do you never take ONE Mormon fishing? "
"Because he'll drink all your beer. Always take 2 or more because one of the others will tell on them and they'll leave your beer alone."

You are correct. It’s deeply silly but it’s just some specific extra modest underwear.

I have no idea about the magic underwear either, but because of your comment I'm wondering whether the goats.com comic and its brief running story about the 'Panties of Potency' are in reference to this.

Did anyone here used to read the goats webcomic?

Always makes me think of the golden pantaloons in BG1, that starts you on the path to the most powerful, ridiculous and obscure set of armour in the game!

What is better, quality or quantity?

Speaking of quantity...

I just spent a long weekend in SLC and there are kids EVERYWHERE. I mean, the amount of children in every public place is exceptional to any other city in America.

Yup, and I bet a lot of those kids had kids of their own.

Well, the more extreme a religious group is, the more children they tend to have. That's why they tend to be the fastest-growing groups in every country in the world. I suppose it's linked to patriarchy. I do wonder where that ultimately leads - especially as it's not just one extremist religious group, but a multiplicity of mutually-incompatible ones that are growing, in different parts of the world.

They used the term "jack mormon" when I was there to describe someone who didn't follow the rules as closely as they should.

Presumably yhey'll take their place among the corporate-controlled conglomerate areas in the future dystopia, the Mormon church is worth $293 billion, and has lots of bodies for a their own army.

I will take a lot of old crumpled dollars over a few new crisp ones. I could also say a lean healthy body is of finer quality than a massively fat one. So let’s play Jordan Peterson and define what qualities and quantities we are talking about. But let’s wait until you have had a lot of sleep, because I wouldn’t want to exhaust you, Cody.
