Oh c'mon Amish, you're in Utah, and you didn't get that small bit of information passed to you in any way?! You really must not care at all, then! :Q;)

For those who didn't know (Pepsei, etc...), Mormon's believe birth control is okay. There is also the idea that Mormons believe in large families. While the latter is true to an extent, there is nothing in the doctrine of the LDS church that says members need to have N amount of kids. The belief exists that members should raise up as many children as they can in a righteous home.

All that really matters is that a crime was committed, namely that of taking a minor from her parents without their consent.
Mormons believe strongly in helping those less fortunate. Nothing wrong with that, but it often extends to allowing transients into your home. When you have teenage daughters, I'd think twice about that.
This is true. And I agree with you about the dangers, but the Christian concept of "Love Thy Neighbor" means that one should give his neighbor the benefit of the doubt (a totally foreign concept in American, I know).
While I questioned yesterday whether or not Elizabeth really was abducted or maybe ran away (and already got flamed for it, so don't bother), I still believe that only her "abductors" are responsible and that her parents, regardless of their actions or religious beliefs, are NOT responsible.

A lot of religions strongly believe in helping those in need. It's the practicing part that tends to trip them up.

LOL Good one:)

And Electric Amish, I know you still don't care. ;)

Give me 8 months with a 14 year old and I bet you I could mind f$#&^@#ck them into a pretty freaked out state. Not uncommon in abductions like this.

This guy could market his techniques at taming the wild teenage girl. :)

Have you ever tried to tell a teenage girl what to do?

So he must be the one who's made all those "show-me-your-taa-taas" videos.

I agree. You have to be simple-minded to be brainwashed to that extent.

No. She was highly intelligent. It is starting to look more and more like she was tired of her strict family. She might have gone at first voluntarily.

From the article:
"She made those statements, 'You guys think I am Elizabeth Smart. I am not,' " Sandy Police Sgt. Victor Quezada said. "She kept denying who she was, right to the very end."

Wow, she was really messed up.

I can tell you don't understand things at all. Brainwashing isn't something that just magically causes you to do a complete reversal in your beliefs. It is a systematic breakdown of everything you know and believe. For it to happen you have to ALLOW it. Many POWs in Vietnam were put through rigorous torture and never gave in. Part of you has to start accepting what you are told. Hey the German people did what they did voluntarily. They didn't have to do it, nor allow Hitler to continue his crap.

Junior, you have a lot to learn. It's easy to sit here in America and say things like "why didn't they just revolt" when you've never had a family, never lived under a dicatorship, and never had to worry about being taken away in the middle of the night. A choice involving the lives of your children is no choice at all. The Chinese run over their dissenters with tanks. Imagine what a regime that sent 6 million Jews to slaughter was capable of. Not that weren't Nazis who enjoyed their work, and not to excuse in any way what happened. But to say that the German people threw themselves into genocide while singing a happy tune is quite ridiculous.

Yes, I know nothing new. It just seemed particularly prominent in this particular article. There was such a lack of cohesion I couldn't finish reading. :disgust:

Did you have an argument or did you just feel like writing a paragraph of half-truths? Maybe in your old age you forgot how to think and it is affecting you ability to create a cogent argument. I didn't say they should have revolted. I said their own choices in WWI led to Hitler's rise to power and no one had the balls enough to stop him before it got too late. You can empathize with them all you want, but it doesn't change the facts of what happened. The Germans were 100% responsible for what happened, just like Patty Hearst was.

It shows you have a lot to learn when you accuse me of saying the Germans did things happily. I never said that nor implied it. You can call me "junior" all you want and I will call you asshat all I want.

Is this you?

I did'nt relize world domination and frying Jews/catholics/homos was on Hitlers election platform. It was a big secret, and no one was brainwashed any more than we are by our ploticians. Once he had the power it was hard to revolt w/o ending up as a lamp shade.

Cry me a river. Hitler's ideas were well known when he started lecturing in beer halls. The German fever for a nationalistic leader led them right to Hitler.
