What i can't believe is that the media is criticising the police now. I watched dateline (or one of those crappy shows) last night and they spent ten minutes talking about the "obvious facts" the police missed. I hate to say it but, hindsight is 20/20 and the police were doing quite a bit to look for her.

What a bunch of religious nuts. But as much as they're the ones responsible for kidnapping Smart, Smart's parents weren't very bright either to just hire the guy off the streets to fix their roof. I mean, just because the guy was preaching, doesn't mean the guy has a good heart. The guy is a total nut.

You're right about hindsight, and it isn't uncommon for people to lay out this type of criticism after something like this happens. It's like, "Well, duh... you should have seen that." It makes the story more sensational, and therefore is more likely to draw viewers.

The Smarts are Mormon, the principal abductor is an ex-communicated Mormon who has proclaimed himself as some type of prophet or Messiah. However, I fail to see why anyone's religious views should be on trial here. All that really matters is that a crime was committed, namely that of taking a minor from her parents without their consent.

A lot of religions strongly believe in helping those in need. It's the practicing part that tends to trip them up.

I know, and I have no problem with it. But considering the amount of homeless who are mentally ill, I think there might be better ways to help than letting them into your home(the approach Mormons seem to prefer).
